Forums - Nintendo - Could we see an annual $50 price cut for Wii U?

The Deluxe Wii U bundle launched in Nov 2012 for $349 and included Nintendo Land. In Sept 2013 it was reduced to $299 and slowly phased out in favor of the Mario+Luigi bundle in Nov 2013 which also sells for $299. I think we could see a further $50 price reduction each Sept with a new bundle in Nov.

Sept 2014 Mario/Luigi bundle-$249, slowly phased out

Nov 2014 Mario Kart 8 bundle-$249, new main bundle

Sept 2015 Mario Kart 8 bundle-$199, slowly phased out

Nov 2015 Nintendo NFC bundle-$199, new main bundle

Is something like this plausible?

Simple: 3DS can't carry Nintendo forever. They can afford lost that money.

I think I remember Iwata saying that getting the manufactoring costs of Wii U down was one of there major goals so hopefully they can do something to make that happen soon.

A $250 Mario Kart 8 bundle is something I will gladly jump on. If that comes early enough, Nintendo won't need to go to $200 for a long time.

There once was a great man, he was known for many things across the land, some good some bad but as the legends say, there was one thing he was truely known for. It wasn't his beauty or his strength, nor was his good heart or his perverted nature, but alas it was his ability to say one word and that is No. And thats the answer to your question

Sorry, but no. You can't lose that much money on each hardware sold and have a profitable business.
Sony showed that to us with the PS3.

Any money Nintendo is willing to invest on Wii U should go to more games or a better marketing. Both if they can.
The only way i see Wii U getting cheaper is if they drop the gamepad, and i don't think this will happen for the next two years at least.
