Forums - Gaming - [Unsung Story] Kickstarted PC version, but no console.

Three days ago the Kickstarter campaign for the spiritual successor of Final Fantasy Tactics ended.

While it did got the money they wanted for the PC version (Linux,MAC and Windows Tablets included), not a single Strech Goal was reached and there will be no PSV, PS4 or 3DS versions.

I think it is odd to see how this ended quite different from Mighty No 9 project, even with Yasumi Matsuno , but i am happy it is going to happen at least.

Probably because they don't really have much to show at all yet. Everything is painfully generic concept renders. Not even simulated gameplay. Where as with Mighty No 9 the scope of a new Megaman title you kinda have an idea going in style and scope etc. How do you really know what you are kickstarting here?

I feel as though this won't be missed cause it just all looks Generic to me... I don't think it will be missed at all on the console front

Wow at the hate. :P

This game is atempt to change the Tactics game formula into something new, thats why its difficult to tell what its gonna come out as. They cant just up and use that FFT formula.

I am curious to see how it turns out. I do think they started the project with too little to show for it. Those art designs only came around the last week. If they had been there day one with a bit of gameplay footage, it would've been a more sucessful campaign. I also think that some of the Playdek guys have smugs that dont inspire confidence. If you hear them talk in the video they dont see that bad, but their foto shots are horrific. I know it sounds like something unimportant but i do believe that seeing a trusting face is important when financing such projects.

I really hope the game makes its way to the Vita. I know that Paypal is active and people can still donate so the strecht goals are hit. I just wish they did not have the 2 translators first. I dont think they are such a dire necessity. Without a console release, this game will never receive recognition, wether its good or not.

The reason for not reaching any stretch goal is pretty obvious.

They wanted
- $ 400.000 above initial goal for a PSV version
- $ 750.000 above initial goal for a PS4 version
- $ 900.000 above initial goal for a 3DS version
- $ 1.1 mio above initial goal for co-op play
- $ 1.4 mio above initial goal for full orchestra recording
- $ 1.55 mio above initial goal for voice-over and subtitle translation by some guy
- $ 1.8 mio above initial goal for a live concert by Hitoshi Sakimoto

Hey, at least the hybris was free for all...

I agree. They were extremely greedy with the ammounts they asked. But hey... if they can make a game that revolutionises the genre, then it would have been worth it.

600k is probably more funding than he ever had for any of the FFT games (including the souped up port for PSP).

I am a backer of this guy and the  OP  is not completely accurate.  Paypal is now opened for the backer tiers and that is added to the total and possibility of reaching the stretch goals.  I am not to hopeful though (I really wanted this on the PSV but 1mill is kinda insane!)

There is a possibility they will lower their stretch goals, with the first being the PSV version.  They have said such in the comments I think it was  (or maybe it was their  AMA, I dont really remember)

They really should have done a better job with their presentation. I remember reading a blurb about this, getting excited, then being disappointed when I visited the kickstarter page. This coming from a person who ranks FFT in their top 2 favorite games of all time.

Contrast it with Project Phoenix, which knocked it out of the park in terms of presentation and hit $1,014,600.

I also think it would have gotten more interest from Vita owners if the goal had been reasonable.

T-RPG has even less fans than regular J-RPGs, so it was obvious that it would make less than Project Phoenix.

And I don't think saying "FFT spiritual successor" is enough to hype a game, i mean there are a lot of very different T-RPG's IP already.

For now though; everyone run and get The Banner Saga!
