Forums - Gaming Discussion - Are XBONE graphics closer to Wii U than PS4?

Obviously this only applies when the games have comparable graphics.

Take Ghosts for example. Ignoring image quality and just focusing on the rendered scene the XBONE port looks better but it's fair to say that both are somewhat close.

Wii U Ghosts: 880X720 or 633,600 pixels

XBONE Ghosts: 1280X720 or 921,600 pixels

PS4 Ghosts: 1920X1080 or 2,073,600 pixels

There's nothing wrong with making this comparison.

There is nothing wrong with making that comparison, but its fair to say its a worthless comparison because there is more to graphics than resolution.

It completely ignores the superior graphics and frame rate of the X1 port. That's ignoring important details to spin your argument.

A PC game running at 720p with low graphic settings is not equal to running that same game on 720p with high graphics settings.

Sorry Joe but I'm gonna have to go with puggsly on this one.

People make me laugh, this will be the excuse of every xbox fan this gen long.... ryse is the best looking game, to avoid that ps4 is doing best performance than the xbox one, devs have told, best consele to program and explote all the fidelity , that one is ps4 home console, so please don`t argue and dont be angry, now xbox one is far better than wii-u , if i would have to spend my money between xbox one or wii u, and the xbox were it cheaper i would`ve spent on the xbox one

The Wii U has several titles running at 1080P.
Wii U as powerfull as the PS4 confirmed?

You missed the sarcasm I think.
Resolution and framerates are obviously not a definitive conclusion of graphics, there is so much more that goes on to render a scene and using a a cross generational game with an aging game engine is not an accurate representation of what this generation is going to be like, it's laughable to even consider that.

With that in mind, I enjoy 7680x1440 gaming which is 11,059,200 pixels. Or roughly 5.3X better than the PS4.

Lets not forget that the Xbox One has superior geometry performance over the WiiU too, something which I wholeheatedly beleive we will see a big push this generation as consoles have finally caught up with 2 year old (Going on 3 years old in a mere 10 months) mid-range PC hardware.

I saw it was sarcasm. You were joking that resolution is the end all with graphics. I agree that it isn't, but I was trying to point out that in this case everything else is roughly equal.

I also agree that COD is a horrible game to represent what systems are capable off, but that applies to the game on Wii U, XBONE, and PS4. It more or less factors out assuming all ports suck equally.

Until the Wii U has a game that looks as good as Ryse then I'm not sure. Most of its games are "cartoon-like" instead of "life-like".

Considering that Ryse has seemingly already peaked the XBone's graphical potential, the fact that the game doesn't look that much better than the likes of God of War 3/ Ascension, and the fact that the Wii-U is still slightly more pwerful than PS3, then eventually the Wii-U could have games that at least come close to Ryse if Nintendo ever takes the life-like graphics approach. Maybe we'll see it with LoZ U, but who knows?

BF4 looks significantly better than CoD and achieves 60 fps, but for your comparison we have to ignore it because the Wii U didn't get its 7th gen quality port.

I mentioned that. See the bolded. Unlike COD and BF4, is there a night and day difference between the Wii U and XBONE ports when ignoring image quality? They look really close to me. Also I didn't know the Wii U port hovered around 40fps. That's a mistake on my part.

@Fatslob I'd go with pugsly's point too, that's why I said it

Well both WiiU and XBO play COD Ghosts in 720p and 60 FPS

Personally, I think XBO is close to PS4 then WiiU, but in all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if XBO were right in the middle between WiiU and PS4. Can't wait to see a new Metroid Prime or even X release and make the WiiU-XBO gap look even smaller.

PS4 and X1 looking pretty much the same.

WiiU looks good but not X1 good.

Why do people keep thinking I'm saying Wii U and XBONE are on par?

Well I know there's sure not a big difference between AC4 on Wii U vs One.

This gen is like the exact reverse of gen 6. Gamecube had a slight edge over Xbox which had a slight edge over PS2. This gen it's the same, except in reverse.

X1 peaked on a day one? Kudos to Crytek on that.

Instead of comparing Ryse to God of War, how about comparing BF4 on X1 to 7th gen ports. The disparity in graphics and performance is most evident there.

With the recent news that MGS:GZ is 720p 60fps on the XBONE, is anyone else starting to feel that the system is closer in terms of graphics to the Wii U than the PS4? There's certainly a large gap between the XBONE and Wii U, no one is denying that, but the gap between the PS4 and XBONE appears even larger. I'm certainly thinking so.

Technically, XB1 is about 8x X360 in terms of raw power. In comparison, PS4 is about 10x PS3. Also as a reminder, PS3 has roughly 20% more power than X360, so roughly speaking; let's normalize X360 to 100

X360 : 100
PS3 : 120
XB1 : 800
PS4 : 1200

The problem with that comparison is that those are theoretical performance levels. Although PS3 theoretically had a 20% advantage, it was much harder to utilize the performance and with equal amount of effort, a PS3 could utilize only 80% performace of an X360, which only improved later on.

So what's up with the XB1? If the raw power gap (50% advantage in favor of PS4) was the only issue, we wouldn't be talking about this now, and most third party games would be on parity with 10-15 fps higher on PS4 platform and that'd be it. However, the major issue is far worse than that. X360 had 10 MB EDRAM, while XB1 has merely 32 MB ESRAM, which is a 3.2X as much. So, although the raw performance has increased by 8 folds, the paltry 3.2x increase in ESRAM creates a huge bottleneck on XB1, leading to a much greater disparity on the XB1, way more than 50%.

In short, although XB1 is about 4x as fast as WiiU at 720p, which is not so far behind PS4, it just is crippled in the sense that it usually cannot handle 1080p.
