Forums - Gaming - Game scripts: any ideas?

Everyone here must have their gaming moments. A wonderful puzzle, a great battle, a totally unexpected plot twist, peeing your pants... I can imagine many people have their own ideas on this as well. Well, this will be the place to share your ideas, as well as comment on those of others. It can be anything in general: you can give us an outline of a kind of game you'd want to see (not just limited to the story, some information on genre and possible gameplay might be needed), share detailed stories, or just describe short flashes, cutscenes and one-liners that you think would be really darn cool in a game. And if you can, try to give others some feedback on their ideas.

I'll just start it off with the following: I'd love to see (warning: severely predictable) a truly, unpleasantly scary game. A game that makes you cry and stop playing from time to time, not just by giving you the occasional fright, but by constantly keeping up the tense atmosphere and playing with your expectations in the way the great horror movies do. Some things that might fit in there:

-The main character should have some friends/allies who show up from time to time, dead or alive. Then he(/she) comes into a room, and sees a body hanging there, slightly swinging from a rope tied to the ceiling. Slowly, the body spins around... and you see your friend, his eyes and mouth sewn shut. (Yeah, I've got a sick mind).

-The rooms change when you leave them alone... this might work for puzzles, but also for plain freakiness (go into a door, go back, entirely different room).

-Mirrors. Lots and lots of mirrors, which you can't help but look into. It would be nice to have you see a truly scary face in such a mirror early in the game, so that the rest of the game you keep freaking out at every mirror you see... and when you finally get used to them, suddenly there's scaryface again!

-Enemies should not be bound to a room, but be able to wander around and come after you (only to a certain extent) when you don't expect it. Those were my scariest moments in REmake.

-Horror should not be limited to the gameplay.  The game should also unexpectedly scare you in the save screen (for example, on your 13th save), the main menu, possible loading screens (in REmake, I kept wondering if one of the doors you see in the loading screens would actually reveal something other than black).

-In one of the game's main spots (one you keep returning to) there should be some kind of object that's always just lying there until you don't notice it anymore (preferably something like a knife), and suddenly, it's gone. This way, you'll see that something's not right, but you won't immediately know what

-More hanging bodies!

-Ghastly arms coming out of the walls from time to time, grabbing you.

-Beating hearts in the background music.

-Really short flashes of things, that make you think 'hey, was that my imagination?' until you actually do start imagining them yourself.

Well, I hope this gives an idea of what this thread's for: what would you like to see in games plotwise?

No love for this topic, I see.. I'll try to bump it one more time, see if it does any better.

Yeah I got an idea!

A fat plumber embarks on a quest to save a Princess from a fat spiky turtle.

Sell it to Nintendo, they'll make millions.

You 'stole' some ideas from Eternal Darkness, specifically when you try to get the Tomb of Eternal Darkness and the 'flash' moments in which the game makes you think you do stuff that your not and the environement changes. I showed that stuff to you, but whatever ...

EDIT: I have an idea! It's called The legend of Zelda: Dawn of the silver moon.

The storyline would go something like this: Ganondorf comes. A hero in a green outfit will rise. He will save princess Zelda. He embarks on a journey more dangerous and more engrosing than ever seen before. He will save the world from the looming darkness. End of story.

THE NETHERLANDS

I've got at least 5 ideas per genre i'd like to play that have never been made.

All the same, I imagine most people do. Or at least for the genres they love.

I guess I'm not as original and creative as I'd like to be, but ever since I read Hyperion I've been tinkering with an idea of a game featuring a Shrike-like, looming terror. For anybody not familiar with Shrike, I strongly suggest doing some reading, but the basic premise is a creature that passes through time and space as effortlessly as we blink our eyes. And has four arms and is covered in long spikes that pierce through anything, making it a nasty opponent to say the least.

However, what I'd really like from a game is to explore the depths of humanity, to delve into more mature subjects than just survival or having fun. Unfortunately, this is not what game studios want to do, and that is why I think games have such a juvenile and immature reputation. So, I want a game that offers deep emotions and causes me to question myself as a human, a game that is like a good book or a movie that you want to experience again to find out those layers of the story you missed the first time.

I guess what all this means is that the game should either have a crapload of scripted events that change in reaction to the actions of the player, or an incredibly good AI with regards to NPC actions, reactions and emotions. Not going to happen anytime soon, I reckon, but what the heck, I will always have my dreams and they are way better than anything real anyway!

Totally agreeing with Plaupius. Psychological games for the win!

And StarcraftManiac: I didn't consciously steal things from Eternal Darkness, although the changing rooms idea kinda reminded me of it. But of course some points are similar; didn't The Ring use suspense techniques already  featured in The Shining? (Just a random example). And those flash moments... I think in some form, every horror game has some of them.

My point is: of course I'm not being entirely original here, butI don't have to: it's about adding it all together for me. And hell, I really should borrow Eternal Darkness from you sometime soon.
