Everyone here must have their gaming moments. A wonderful puzzle, a great battle, a totally unexpected plot twist, peeing your pants... I can imagine many people have their own ideas on this as well. Well, this will be the place to share your ideas, as well as comment on those of others. It can be anything in general: you can give us an outline of a kind of game you'd want to see (not just limited to the story, some information on genre and possible gameplay might be needed), share detailed stories, or just describe short flashes, cutscenes and one-liners that you think would be really darn cool in a game. And if you can, try to give others some feedback on their ideas.
I'll just start it off with the following: I'd love to see (warning: severely predictable) a truly, unpleasantly scary game. A game that makes you cry and stop playing from time to time, not just by giving you the occasional fright, but by constantly keeping up the tense atmosphere and playing with your expectations in the way the great horror movies do. Some things that might fit in there:
-The main character should have some friends/allies who show up from time to time, dead or alive. Then he(/she) comes into a room, and sees a body hanging there, slightly swinging from a rope tied to the ceiling. Slowly, the body spins around... and you see your friend, his eyes and mouth sewn shut. (Yeah, I've got a sick mind).
-The rooms change when you leave them alone... this might work for puzzles, but also for plain freakiness (go into a door, go back, entirely different room).
-Mirrors. Lots and lots of mirrors, which you can't help but look into. It would be nice to have you see a truly scary face in such a mirror early in the game, so that the rest of the game you keep freaking out at every mirror you see... and when you finally get used to them, suddenly there's scaryface again!
-Enemies should not be bound to a room, but be able to wander around and come after you (only to a certain extent) when you don't expect it. Those were my scariest moments in REmake.
-Horror should not be limited to the gameplay. The game should also unexpectedly scare you in the save screen (for example, on your 13th save), the main menu, possible loading screens (in REmake, I kept wondering if one of the doors you see in the loading screens would actually reveal something other than black).
-In one of the game's main spots (one you keep returning to) there should be some kind of object that's always just lying there until you don't notice it anymore (preferably something like a knife), and suddenly, it's gone. This way, you'll see that something's not right, but you won't immediately know what
-More hanging bodies!
-Ghastly arms coming out of the walls from time to time, grabbing you.
-Beating hearts in the background music.
-Really short flashes of things, that make you think 'hey, was that my imagination?' until you actually do start imagining them yourself.
Well, I hope this gives an idea of what this thread's for: what would you like to see in games plotwise?
I drink your milkshake.
