Let me know how that works out for you because I have a regular 3DS that I never entered the code for, but it is registered.

They responded to me, and stated they registered my product.  They provided me the 160 coin product registration survey option to complete.  Nintendo didn't have to do that, but I'm glad they resolved my issue.
