Easy, because it's not making tons of money, and will take a few quarters to do so and only if things go as planed.

Any way, the PS4 didn't brake the hardcore to casual barier, sales are no close to 2007 Wii level. There are more people talking about "Flap Birds" than "Infamous SS".

True, they are actually quite a bit bigger than that. Without a Japan launch.

Not according to those grafs http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=177775&page=1

And let's not forget the Wii was in a severe shortage back then, Ebay prices went as high as US$600

That's just for January, PS4 is still tracking about a million ahead even without Japan.

In fact, if you remove Japan, PS4 is on par for January.

It doesn't need to sell as well as the Wii now to beat its sales in the long run. The Wii had explosive sales in its first years but then dropped way faster than the other consoles (the Wiis best year was 2008, 360/PS3 had their best year in 2011 and both consoles have been outselling the Wii every year since then). The PS4 is selling decisively better than the PS3 was at the same point in its life and if Sony manages to keep the PS4 alive for about as long as they managed with the PS3, then it can very well outsell the Wii.

PS4 launch was launched in much bigger total market than the Wii.

Back to February 2007 Wii was still selling at a average 220k a week, and March was 200k, Japan going from 60k to 45k.

Now, PS4 rest of the world are counted as 30K a week + smaller European countries. But again, VGChartz is overstimating PS4 sales on those markets.

I agree that Wii will probably catch the PS4 in February, but that doesn't change the fact that PS4 is still tracking about a million ahead of the Wii and is on par even for January if you remove Japan.

Last gen was also a far bigger total market than the 6th gen, and yet the PS2 still slaughtered Wii's LTD. I bet when everything is said and done, this gen will end up considerably smaller than the last, and yet the PS4 will still outsell Wii LTD.

great ammount of profit came from the ps+ subscriptions.

You mean the new 4 million subscription (estimate) ?

That's not that much, only 60 million dollars for the quarter if true.

A year costs $50. Assuming most of those subscriptions were one year, that's almost $200m...

New suscribers wouldn't take one year directly, right after buying a 400$ console + games.

If so many 360 gamers jumped aboard as a lot of Sony fans say here, they would. We're used to the paywall!!

PS4 is selling at a small loss per standalone console I think. They're getting their profits from software, ps+ and accessories.... which does count!

Ive always thought about this. The more consoles they've sold. The more money they loss. Therefore amounting to an even larger amount of cumulative loss [in the short term].

Yay!!!

Yeah, it's a poor business model. Of all 3 companies, you'd think Sony would be the one least willing to take the loss.

It will more than work out for them though if they win the gen.
