Lol PS3 always sold ahead of 360, except for a week of December, how can it sell more overall? MS stop forging numbers

Uhhh... MS have the official numbers. This site is based on estimates. You have it all wrong. So do the people saying, "the PS3 sold more than the 360 every week lost year except in Dec... How could it be in front?"

Official numbers are more concrete. This thread is about fixing the numbers on this site. You people need to read.

It is funny how you say we all need to read, when you obviously haven't bothered reading the responses to this thread.

I think we all agree (well, most of us anyway) that official numbers are more accurate.  However, as it has already been pointed out, there are no official numbers for November or December, or for the year end.  So all we have are this site's estimates, which are supposed to be adjusted to match the official numbers.  Since the official estimates are from October, you would think that any adjustments would have happened already.

So unless you have some other official sources, everything points to the PS3 having outsold the X360 before the end of 2013.

Sony just released their official numbers, and didn't ms just a week or two ago? I've always thought the x360 was ahead by abit, but what difference does it make at the end of the day? While I agree, for the sake of keeping the sites numbers legit, they should correct them to show the x360 has sold more, but what I don't get, is why some here seem to be getting pretty upset, some downright angry about it!

To me it's as much a fact that the 360 sold more than ps3, as it's a fact that the ps4 is more powerful than the x1.... Hopefully, they change the numbers here to reflect the 360 is in fact ahead, but if they don't? Oh well!

I still like to look at the weekly numbers, because they do give an idea of what the numbers are, and that's what it's all about. Now, everyone, back to your corners for a breather! Let's just all calm down here.... If ioi(?) wants to fix the numbers, he will, if not, it won't bother me or alter my enjoyment of my machines of choice!

The numbers Sony released recently didn't have a breakdown of the consoles - they just had a total number for PS3 + PS4.  That means we can only guess what the actual PS3 numbers are.  Depending on how you guess, it could go either way.

The other big factor is that both Microsoft and Sony released what they had sold to retailers, which is not the same as sold to consumers.  So if retailers tend to keep less PS3's in stock then X360's, the PS3 could still be ahead even though it shipped the same amount.  Everytime I try to Google for that sort of information, I just end up back on this site :)  And based on this site, the PS3 took the lead last year.

And like you mentioned, it doesn't matter what the numbers are, but I am curious as what they are anyway.

Sony's financials are recent! October? Enough of your nonsense!!

Sony released an official statement not too long ago about the PS4, we just subtract those numbers to separate from PS3, hence the thread. Your confusion ray worked... for a little bit! I seriously can't believe it... Early morning here in Aus at the time and I didn't sleep too well last night.

PS3 is ahead, squashing 360 every week. End of the thread.   And PS4 squashing XBox One.

Looks like you leave around holiday season or something. because you're completely wrong.

And what are you basing your statement on?

The only week the PS3 was behind the X360 in global sales in 2013 was Black Friday week.

2012, 2011, 2010 etc....

http://www.vgchartz.com/article/251465/2013-year-on-year-sales-and-market-share-update-to-december-28th/

The X360 sold less globally in each of those years too.

Never said it outsold it. Said it caught up a big portion that it lost. REREAD.

Sony fans constantly bitching about the ps4 site numbers, When someone questions 360 numbers, the numbers are gold and should be treated as fact. LOL

I DEFINATELY agree with this statement. Some here seem to always say Sony under tracked and everything else is over tracked.

Xbox is losing current gen so xbox fans clinging to last gen to feel good?? Move on please.

What a joke of a post, I don't need 360 to be ahead to 'feel good', I want the numbers here to be as accurate as possible. Just like I keep pointing out how Xbox 360 is overtracked in the US by 2m.

Edit - what is it with this debate which brings out the worst in people.

It is hard for them to accept the fact that some users on VGC actually want to see factual numbers, and since the numbers for both PS3 and 360 have been off for atleast a year, they are still living in the dream world where PS3 passed 360. I am actually not too sure anymore that Ps3 will pass 360 at all seeing as PS4 seems to canibalize the sales of Ps3.

Incase it escaped your attention, there will never be "Factual" numbers, it's impossible.

Of course you can when it comes to shipment figures.

Microsoft reach 70 million: http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/10115/article/microsoft-ships-70-million-xbox-360-units-to-date-but-operating-income-plumment-94-in-q1/

Sony reach 70 million: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=149982

Microsoft reach 80 million: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/434439/worldwide-xbox-360-sales-top-80-million-microsoft-claims/

Sony reach 80 million: http://www.vgchartz.com/article/251375/sony-playstation-3-shipments-tops-80-million/

As you can see, their shipments match each other for the period between october 2013 and october 2014, probably meaning 360 has hold the distance in sell-throughs aswell. Sony has probably experienced low PS3 shipments during this last quarter, meaning the distance between them has expanded a bit more again.

And I can promise you: if the situation was reversed, I would talk about that aswell :).

Unfortunately they are arguing over sales not shipments.

That and I just don't consider Japan PS3 numbers :P. That being reinforced by native Japan residents just don't frequent gaming forums that require english to effectively communicate. So chances are....if you are on a english forum, your on 360 turf.

That makes absolutely no sense at all. In fact it actually sounds a bit racist.

OT: Does it even matter, PS3 WILL pass the 360 eventually. If it hasn't already then it will by the end the year. Especially with how fast the 360 is dropping now.

Even a statistical tie is a 360 victory. Sold more games, made more profit, it was a great gen.

What about average sales per year?

What? That isn't a "direct comparison?"

Nor is comparing numbers that include sales in a year where one system didnt exist.

Lol? Just because it was released later it's unfair to compare them? You need to watch this video. It's referring to you in parts. Skewing reality to suit agendas.

Interesting but I wish the PS3 would finally once and for all pass the 360 permanently now cause we all know it will happen eventually, but its annoying seeing PS fans celebrate the same thing 4 times now. I think the first time Sony fans thought they reached 2nd place was back in early 2013 when IDC reported numbers about PS3 being 1m ahead but they were incorrect.

not skewing reality, youre the one ignoring the reality that xbox got taken despite a 1 year lead.

Just accept it happened.

Good points... now I think who will announce 90 million first? I think Sony in January 2015 but I'm not sure.
