Forums - Sales - Sales graph trends for next gen compared to last gen

You should show that graph to a certain someone who still believes the PS4 is doing better than the Wii.

Well it is cheaper....a huge factor.
It did launch earlier....not that much earlier but still
and most importantly. It launched in a lot of more countries so it should have more sales.

The PS3 has been selling more than the 360 at a higher price for years.

The earlier launch was far too insignificant to matter much.

It did launch it more countries, but it's also beating the X1 in pretty much every country they are both out in. The PS4 also still has Japan up it's sleeve, something the X1 isn't likely to benefit much from, and the PS4 has also been constantly hit by supply issues.

Anything else you want to add? ^^

It outsold it at the end of the generation.....it took 8 years...

Ps4 is beating the xbox one is the US because of the price. It launched worldwide so supply issues should be high obviously. More countries means less consoles shipped to each country. Microsoft launched in only 13 so that gave them more supply for each country. It isn't rocket science.

Ps3 had alot more exclusives over it's lifetime than xbox 360. People buy consoles to play exclusive games. That alone gave sony the advantage to sell more consoles than microsoft.

I will await your replay..

1-PS3: $600, 12 months after X360 launch in NA and 16 months after X360 launch in Europe. It's why X360>PS3 while almost all the generation but since PS3 launch it always was PS3>X360 for the sales every years.

2- Japan for PS4 = all countries(where PS3 outsold X360 by far) where XB1 must still have a launch.

3- yes PS4 launched 1 week before in NA but 1 week after in Europe. Balance

Yes, it's the four weeks of January, basically when supply should start coming in

US:

PS4 59,085 (+2%) 2,263,631
XOne 49,809 (-11%) 2,117,358

UK:

PS4 17,547 (-15%) 627,008
XOne 8,922 (-16%) 426,152

Germany:

PS4 7,359 (-29%) 295,531
XOne 2,987 (-24%) 146,654

France:

PS4 11,704 (-6%) 286,304
XOne 3,583 (-4%) 144,741

Clearly the most important reason for the PS4 outselling the X1 is the extra countries it's released in.

Nice way to spin numbers. Also it's not really surprising for the Xbox One more expensive and available in less countries. Someone already said this so I'll just reiterate their point.

The PS3 was more expensive and released in less countries than the X1 and, yet, they're about similar in sales.

Thanks! Are you planning on making these for the coming months as well?

And guys, I think he knows the different factors that come into play with each consoles sales. He's just stating a fact so there's no need to jump all over it since I'm sure they are meant to be simple observations, not the "haha, 360 is doing better than the X1" meaning many of you seem to have gotten from it.

Yep, I'm going to track all of it week to week.

There will be sales since launch, yearly sales week to week, and regional possibly.

No, it took the the PS3 7 or so years to overtake the 360, since the 360 had a rather large lead from it's early release. Despite the PS3 costing more it's entire lifetime it's been outselling the 360 more months than not since for the last 4/5 years. Even during it's launch year at $600 it still managed to keep on the 360's heals, and even outsell it some months.

Because of those supply issues we can't know if the X1 would be selling more in the US at the same price, since we don't know the PS4's sales potential without them. I do think at the same price the X1 would be ahead, but it's still a huge victory for Sony to take that much market share from MS so quickly. The X1 may also have more territories to release in, but the PS4 also has Japan. I'd bet that will counter out the effect of much of the X1's launch in those countries, since it will benefit little from Japan.

So you admit to the PS3 being a better console than the 360? ^^ Because you're right, it did have more exclusives, and with better critic receptions too.

The PS3 ended up outselling the 360 for the majority of last gen at a higher price, shall i expect to see the same from the X1 once they are both released everywhere? ^^ It does currently have more major exclusives released than the PS4, so it has no excuse not to ay?

It's also worth noting that the X1 comes with a peripheral. MS were the ones who chose to put it in, so it's their job to make customers see that peripheral as worth the higher cost. If the only way the X1 could outsell the PS4 is cost the same/less then it would just show that MS made a pretty big mistake with the Kinect.

If the Xbox One ends up like PS3 in the long run I wouldn't mind
