Not really, Nintendo fans are all about split-screen local coop not online gaming

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

They should offer an optional paid service and then when the next Nintendo console rolls around, make it mandatory, like what Sony did.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

You do know that for Nintendo to sell that subscription people on the WiiU have to actually want to be online?
The Sony model where only game multiplayer is locked behind the subscription wouldn't work. They need the MS model where every function vaguely associated with online is for a fee.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Calm your tits bro. It may not be up to standards but it's definitely not "absolutely worthless". |
No it's worthless. The OG Xbox had a better online system than the WiiU. WiiU games still tie to the hardware and not the account, in case you want to transfer games from one system to another you actually have to call up Nintendo and have someone sort that out for you. How is that possibly ok in this day and age? Did Nintendo not learn anything from XBL or PSN?
And what's even worse is that most of Nintendo's premiere games don't even have online support. Want to play 3D World or Donkey Kong with your friend who lives in another state? Well you better buy a plane ticket! Thanks Nintendo for continuing to ignore innovation and convenience!
Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
Almost nobody responding is listening to the fact that the OP is discussing paying a subscription for access to a full library of VC games and not for online multiplayer. Kind of ridiculous.
But I want to point out: do we know how much profit Nintendo makes from the SALE of VC games? The profit from the subscription would have to be greater than the loss of that sale money. I do like what you say about 2 dollars more to 'buy' a game, but it poses the question: if it was $4-$5 a month to play all games on VC, why would you 'buy' it?
People, I mentioned what Sony and Microsoft do with online gaming, but most Nintendo fans in this thread actually thought that the most likely scenario would be an optional Netflix for Retro games.
I think something like that could be successful.
Free online is one reason I bought a Wii U. I wanted to play COD online, but didn't want to pay for Live Gold, and I knew both new consoles would be charging for it. So far I've saved $120 by owning a Wii U.
But yes, they absolutely should. They should have a service like PS+ that gives you free downloads of classic titles and allows for online match making. It needs to be a better service than right now, in particular they need to have more classic and original titles and more often releases. The NintendoLand team should be dedicated to remaking classic titles and making new classic-style titles and one should be released every month or two and they should be free to NN+ subscribers.
And Nintendo should use this revenue to make a better system or sell the existing one cheaper. They should experiment with it now, but then fully implement it with their next system. With that additional revenue they could put an additional $100+ of gaming power into a new console. Or Wii U could be $199. It's effectively what Sony did, and it's what Nintendo should do. It's a great strategy.

What game on WiiU would make me pay for online for the last year+... oh yeah thats right, NOTHING!!!
