The thing is imho they needed faster price drops with PS1 being Sony's first first ever console, and with PS3 being launched at such a high price it needed an insentitive badly.

The PS2 reminds me of the PS4 in that demand is really high and the competition isn't scary for Sony this gen like the PS2 gen (Dreamcast went under and Gamecube was a low seller, XBOX was new). With PS4 everyone knows about it like the PS2 launch, Nintendo is a low seller with the Wii U even wors sales than Gamecube, Sega is still gone lol, XB1 is half the threat they used to be imho)

My guess is that the PS4 will take 1.5 years to 2 years before a 100.00 price drop. I also don't see XB1 being the first to price drop, but rather when the PS4 does at that time then the XB1 will do the same price drop to hang in there. What do you guys think? So my prediction is a 2015 July-2015Dec/Christmas for us US dwellers. I will actually predict October 2015 will be the 100.00 PS4 price drop month.

Who's going to try and wait for the PS4's first 100 dollar drop? I think it's tougher to wait this gen for it.  Or will we see a 50.00 price drop or something new this gen? Post your thought if you have one ;) It would be interesting if XB1 did a 50.00 price drop soon. I would even think it's possible that Kinect doesn't cost 100.00 dollars I've googled and found claims that it costs 56.00 dollars so I think XB1 could pull a 50.00 price drop soon, but will they? If I was them I would because their sales are dropping in UK and if they want to remain relevent they have to soon, but they're a very greedy company imho and it wouldn't urprise me that they'll wait for the PS4 to make the initiative also. K thats a mouthful.

I think we'll see a $100 PS4 price drop either this time next year or during the summer of next year. I don't it will be later than that because I think the Xbox One will see a price drop within the year and Sony will want to counter within a few months to keep the momentum.

It is certainly possible that we see a $50 price drop (as well as possibly a new 1TB model) sooner so that could throw things off.

Personally my plan is to wait for a price drop and then buy the 500 gb model and just swap the HDD right off the bat. But that will only happen if enough games I want are out once the price goes down. But I'm confident that will be the case.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I'd like it to be just before Christmas this year or there abouts as I'd like to get one around then but your other guess of 2015 is a better one I think. Maybe March as to help with sales after Christmas.

But this said I also agree with your other guess that if MS drop the price of the Xbox, Sony will do the same with the PS4, even if it's by $50/£25. Just so they stay just below Xbox One's price.

Hmm, pie.

I just think that if the demand is there Sony isn't going to drop the price just before the holidays and lose all of that potential profit. So I expect the price drop to come after the holidays, probably shortly after.

I'm going to wait for the first $100 price drop, which might be a while, as you said. But it will give me more time to finish my backlog. Plus many of the early PS4 games will be a lot cheaper at that point, and the library will be a lot more robust.

I would guess a price drop is 16-21 months away.

The thing is, for both PS1 and PS2 a 100$ price drop was 33% of the total value.

PS3 was launched on the least favorable yen, so the "price drop" (wich wasn't actually that interesting) was difficult, due to huge loss.

Now that the yen is favorable (and Sony as cash in multiple devise to prevent 2006 to ever happen again), a 15% early price drop to make sure XBOX stays more expensive would be interesting for Sony. But they can wait for XBOX first price drop (not valid if wii U actually get back in the game, too early to tell)

Why would you wait a year and a half to save 100$? That does not make any sense unless you already have a Wii U or a XB1 and are satisfied

I would say 18-20 months after launch as no pressure at all to do so this year.

oooor if I have a PS3 and am satisfied. Which I do, and I am. GT6 just came out, I could wait longer if need be.

i say more than 1 and half year and before 2 years, PS4 is a affordable machine for what its under the bonnet at the moment... Xbox One will need a price cut in a year period and with both at the same price PS4 will lose some steam, so sony will react and cut PS4 price a few months later after Xbox One.
