What did you think the current consoles would be like at the beginning of last gen? I can't answer, since I didn't really get into gaming until late 2012, but I'm guessing most of you guys can answer.

Hm, younger me probably would have thought Nintendo would be dominating and that the gap in graphics would be bigger. And that the DS wouldnt have a successor yet. Stupid assumptions but I was 8-10 around the start of the 7th Gen so I wasnt the most knowledgable at the time :P

I didn't think Sony would make another console after the $600 ps3 launch fail and Nintendo and MS would be the two companies left... I also didn't think the wii would do that good either and I thought that Sony would Dominate the Handheld market cause I was a big, big fan of the psp... Man, was I wrong lolll, for better or for worse that is... I did think that the wiiU would do a lot better than its doing right now as well

I also wasn't aware that a site like vgchartz existed to the public with sales data so I had no idea how much these consoles/handhelds really sold... I was just basing it on the games each console had

Uh, hold on a bit.

I thought Nintendo would make an HD system with a new type of controller that introduced new gameplay. I was not disappointed. I thought PS4 would make a fairly standard system that was the strongest of the three, and I was right. I expected Xbox to make a system in between the two along with a new Kinect. That happened too. I didn't expect Wii U to have that name, I expected a completely new name. Nor did I expect Xbox One, I thought like many that it would be a number like 720 or 1080, most likely 1080 to represent 1080p. I never expected the DRM fiasco, and once it happened I never expected the 180. I expected Wii U to do better than it has, I still don't fully get why it's doing poorly but then I never expected a game drought like this or the lack of marketing. Aside from that, I didn't expect to be impressed by new graphics, and thus far I haven't been. It's been nice to see Nintendo stuff in HD FINALLY, but aside from that nothing wowed me.

I was really content and didn't really think about it. Heck right now I don't even know what I'd expect 9th gen systems to be like.

I expected the Wii-U and PS4 to have virtual reality technology with Microsoft pushing itself as 'gaming as you know and want it'.

Except I DID NOT see the name Wii-U coming.

I just assumed the next thing will get closer to photo realistic graphics and more polished visuals.

That's always a safe bet.
