PS4s were in stock at every store I saw this weekend. First time that I've seen that since launch. So we'll finally know in Feb's numbers what the actual week-to-week demand is. PS4 is having peak weeks here after finally being available to those who were waiting for it but couldn't find it.

Let's not lose sight of a basic fact here: the only console doing so bad that it's pathetic is Wii U. X1 is selling twice as much as that in less regions. Just because the PS4 is doing spectacularly well right now doesn't mean that doing less than that is a failure. It's like when the Wii was dominating: people still played 360 and PS3 in large numbers. Wii fans didn't think that the PS3 would stop being sold.

People who are spinning the success of the PS4 into imminent doom for the X1 are being a little ridiculous. Can't you enjoy your currently high sales without taking it to absurd, unwarranted extremes? After all, the PS3 wasn't discontinued after a year, and it was in a similar position.

No. There were countless people on here claiming ps3 would never pass N64, and that wii would reach 200 million and easily pass ps2.

And then of course, there's threads like this

overpriced, no games, shitty memory cards

Nice joke.

Global Hardware by Platform

week ending January 24th 2009

Wii - 430,295
DS - 380,788
PSP - 168,232
X360 - 158,827
PS3 - 149,395

Look at the numbers above from 4 years ago, that is what late January numbers should look like.

This gen is fucking awful.

Final console gen unless sales of everything go up by a huge degree.

I think you're going to see a dramatic dropoff of PS4 sales in February until it launches in Japan. Not to the point where it is doing bad, but I think that people who wanted one haven't been able to find one until recently.

Japan will really help their sales but within three months everybody who wants one in Japan will find one too.

It's just that when there's a line of people who want one but can't get one, every single console will sell out until that desire is satiated. Then it becomes a normal, week-to-week sales slog.

The Wii was selling out in stores everywhere you looked for one for over two years. Do you really think the PS4 will be like that? It's already not in NA/EU.

Just enjoy the solid PS4 sales as great sales; don't apply delusions to it that will only disappoint you in the long run.

Wii dropped too.

The PS4 sales will increase in the next month with the games to come... it will have a slow moment close to E3 because it is the lowest weeks of the year in terms of sales but after August the sales will start to increase too.

The holidays 2014 will be huge for PS4... this shit will sell like hotcakes.

That's ignoring my central point that you can already find PS4 in stock at any large retailer in NA and probably EUR less than three months after launch and you couldn't find Wii in stock for over two years. These sales figures are from a few weeks before PS4 was readily available. It's doubtful that it will maintain anything like these sales in Feb.

Of course, towards the end of the month it will get a huge infusion from the Japan launch but after 2 1/2 months it will catch up with demand there too.

That's all I'm saying. These are the peak sales of pent-up demand. Once the people in line for one who couldn't find one are sated, the sales will go down and it will become a week-to-week slog between the players. PS4 already has a commanding lead. But it's not going to keep going at this rate, at least not in NA/EUR. It will have a lead this entire generation, but you aren't going to see the same ratio of sales every single week from here on out.

Well, until we know for sure what their output is, rumors don't mean much to me.  That having been said, I've no idea what the Asian preorder numbers are like either.  Think how warmly they've received other home grown hardware in the past, and who knows this could be a fairly massive Asian launch for Sony.

Also, I doubt that the initial run of PS4's had any stock dedicated to the Asian launch, given how hard it's been for some to find the console on shelves in places they HAVE launched.  So it's likely that whatever they are reserving for the Asian launch, has been from what's been manufactured since launch.  Or do you think that's unlikely?

I'm not really sure how it works but I'd be very suprised if they kept PS4 units from selling over the holiday just so they could keep them for the Asian laucnh. What seems more likely to me is that they've started to save units from about this week of sales and onwards. They must be saving at least 50k per week that they produce, if not over 100k because Japan launch will be big. I guess we'll see their full production/sales once the PS4 has launched in all major areas. I think it will be at least 250k per week.

I wish we had some Preorder numbers from Japan, if the first batch offered via preorder sold out in 'a few minutes' (According to Hiroshi Kawano) are to be believed, how many were offered?  What kind of preorder stats have they seen since that first batch (Presumably they've added more bundles/consoles to it since the first 'batch'.)...  So little information to really draw a serious conclusion from.

And yeah, reserving consoles for the Asian release, from their initial runs of PS4's seems woefully daft.  So yeah I figure a percentage of weekly runs is reserved for the Asian launch.

LOL, really? Well that's dumb. Dumb then, and dumb now.

Yeah, the only good point on that list is the memory cards one. Prices for the Vita are almost at rock bottom over there anyway. 99$ for that thing is a steal.

Add me if you like!

Ask me about 3DS Friend Code if interested. All other things are in the profile!

Its wishful thinking but we may get pre-order numbers tomorrow with the quarter report from sony. I doubt it though :(. I think it weill have a lot of pre orders in Japan.

Where do you can find PS4? Just because it was avaiable during four days didn't shows the supply meet the demand... I want Sony to ship more than demand ASAP to everybody that wants a PS4 buy it.

BTW PS4 had yet ~1million units over Wii at the same period... it will be hard to close this gap in the next months... maybe after the holidays 2014 we can have a better picture.
