Forums - Sony - If you have played the KZ Shadow Fall campaign, what are your thoughts compared to other KZs/FPSs?

I´ve never really been into the Killzone series (though I really like the story, it´s quite deep, just the developer does a shitty job of presenting it to the player in a good way), and I´m not much of an online player, so I mainly played the campaigns.

I enjoyed the KZ2 campaign, not so much the KZ3 one, and I had hope for Shadow Fall, but after playing it and finishing it, I was left disappointed.

I don´t think it´s 'awful', just pretty average (there´s the arguement that if you play a FPS for its campaign, you´re doing it wrong, but it seems like KZ has always had a longer campaign than your typical FPS, so there´s more focus on it) and one big complaint that apparently so many people have had, the level design and how easy it is to 'get lost', wasn´t a problem.I never had a problem knowing where to go.

My main disappointment was the enemy AI and the overall lack of challenge I felt throughout the campaign, save for a couple of fights.Seriously, it it just my impression or is the enemy AI worse than the one from KZ2?

I started on hard and even on that difficulty, I felt no real challenge coming from the enemies. Many times the enemy would just stand there, not moving to look for me, sometimes he would just keep walking against a wall.I had a much better challenge in previous KZs.

And once again, Guerrilla just can´t tell the story in a good way, they seriously need better writers.

What´s your opinion?

It's not a bad FPS. It has some really great gunplay like all killzones imo.
It's not a ' classic killzone' game though.
The main story is a little meh, but the environment and the cold war touch to it are pretty good.
The graphics are superb

To me it's the only FPS I ever liked enough on a console to play the single player campaign all the way through!

KZ 2 seemed to have a more interesting narative, but the low frame rate and somewhat low resolution were untolerable to me... that has been my complaint about all console FPS games until now, so I am looking forward to try more on the mighty PS4!

As you can guess, I have been playing those on PC up until now, I still prefer the mouse keyboard input, it just makes more sense... but at least for now this console can run these games well enough that I may be more tempted to move my gaming 100% on the couch. (and my current gaming PC is about the same power as the PS4 as far as games are concerned)

Amazing graphics, great open levels, and the normal average story.

My problem was it felt odd, like the gameplay and such. The other killzones certainly didn't feel this way. I'd have to replay them to pin down the roots of this difference.

For me, the best KZ campaign was in 2. I liked 3's but it wasn't as good as 2. With that said, I though SF wasn't as good as the other two. It pretty much came down to the story which wasn't paced well and interesting imo. I didn't have problem with level design and the graphics were the best I've seen. It wasn't a game I would have played again.

e=mc^2

I thought 2 and 3 were amazing (Probably my favorite FPS campaigns ever), and that SF's was noticeably worse. I liked it and I didn't. It was very hit and miss. Still I would say it was better than most of its competitors, and that any website that gives it something below a 7 is simply looking for hits...

Compared to other KZs, I really didn't like the route that the game took with the whole standalone super soldier thing. The Killzone lore is known for being about large scale battles in an ongoing war between 2 rivaling races. The Berlin style setting was great, and it did set the series up for another potential war between the Vektans and the Helghast, but the whole Shadow Marshal program was a completely unnecessary detail. Yeah, it gave a reason for another war breaking out, but it made the game feel like a Black Ops ripoff by almost completely removing the scale. The game would have done a lot better as a non-Killzone title. It just doesn't feel genuine to the series.

0331 Happiness is a belt-fed weapon

Killzone 2 is by a mile the best Killzone both SP and MP. Killzone 3 comes after that. Killzone:Mercenery was/is more fun the ShadowFall. Can't comment how it stands besides Killzone 1 as I have not played it.

ShadowFall have a pretty forgetable SP,it had a great idea with the walls and everything to build a great story but the executionen was not done aswell as it could have been done.

It was time to retire the series long ago. Guerilla Games are probably the worst FPS developers going. Equally hopeless Insomniac have done a somewhat better job with the Resistance games.

As a seasoned FPS vet, Killzone 2 is one of the most unplayable shooters I have ever played. Ugly environments, horrendous controls, lofty presentation and probably the most generic level and mission design in any FPS game. Unnecessary melodrama got in the way of an otherwise interesting premise and backstory, but by no means would I say the series has a good story. Cinematics and graphics were the only noteworthy thing here. Some neat weapons and bosses too.

KZ3 was a noted improvement as far as gameplay and environment variety goes, but thats about it.

Shadowfall was their weakest and most generic attempt so far. Played it at a friends house, have no intention of playing any further. The 8's and 9's on metacritic must be the graphics, because it played like a 5 or 6/10 game to me.

Mediocre.

But the MP is the best over all the games launched to next-gen consoles.
