I liked the first one better just cause it had the WoW factor... It was completely new and unexpected where as the second one just improved up on it which isn't a bad thing since the level of improvement was up the ass... Galaxy 2 is super good but I think Galaxy 1 just inches out to be better for me just cause it felt like nothing I have ever really experienced before

Galaxy was basically like having sex the first time vs Galaxy 2 was like trying anal if you catch my drift... Both are pretty Jizz Worthy in their own right but its hard to deny the WoW factor of the first one

Oh, my. Lemme save this.

Both are great but I agree.

Galaxy is the kind of game that feels better a bit more streamlined when selecting levels than something like Mario 64. The hub in Mario 64 was fantastic but in Galaxy 1 it was nowhere near as good and just got in the way IMO.

I wasn't a big fan of the water levels either but I really have to play them both again to see which had the greater number of outstanding stages. I just remember liking the sequel a bit better overall.

Exactly. I had a bit of a hard time trying to go to the domes and shit. That hub was messy.

The castle galaxies in the second game are better than most galaxies of the first one. They were really challenging and I loved to ground pound some meteors to break those seals.

The first one was regarded as better because it was such a unique and unseen twist for the Mario series and people were more WOW'ed.

While the second one was creatively and technically better, it wasn't regarded as better because we were familiar with the concepts and already kinda spoiled.

I had more fun with the second one, but I was in awe more with the first one.

That's really unfortunate, cause the SMG2 is just better, in my opinion. So many new ideas and mindblowing concepts. And I know what you mean. I only got to play SMG2 last year and I just beat SMG, so you can see how late I am. I missed out on the whole Galaxy frenzy that graced the universe some years ago.

Agree, the only advantage I'd give to Galaxy1 over the 2nd is the presentation towards the storytelling.

The second one was designed with the assumption that players had already played Galaxy 1. As such, the developers were free to jump right in without having to worry about ramping up the difficulty too quickly, or easing players into the game. It was meant to be more difficult, because players had already mastered the basics in SMG 1.

Going from SMG2 to 1 is going to lead to a pretty sharp decrease in difficulty because of the order, so it's kind of a bad order to do things in. Plus, for you, SMG2 is going to seem more original and novel because it was the first one you played. For most people, it's the opposite.

Both great games. I like SMG1 better simply because it was so fresh and new when I played it. Galaxy 2 was great as well, but it couldn't recapture that magic. If I played the games in the reverse order, there is a good chance I'd agree with you though.

I don't know which one I prefer but I didn't like that SMG2 had too many 2D-like levels (like the levels of New Super Mario Bros.) and it needed more Yoshi.

I agree, I also played the second one before the first, which may be one of the reasons why.

I personally think the music in the second one is more memorable than the first. Yoshi is a nice addition too.

LIke others have said--the one you play first is the one you love. I played 'em in order so SMG2 lost a lot of its freshness. Even though I know it's the better game, I'd still rather play Sub Machine Gun 1. Same goes for the NSMB games. I know U and 2 are better than the 1st on DS but dammit, there's no substitute for the first time....except when it comes to 3D World. It towers above 3D Land.

Why Sub Machine Gun?

Inside joke--and not even a funny one.  Sorry.

What he said. The same way (don't crucify me if you disagree) Skyward Sword is a better game than Ocarina of Time, but considering how far ahead of its time OoT was, Skyward Sword has nothing on it in terms of the original WOW factor most of us felt when playing both games

My thread for teaching VGC some Nigerian slangs

Loved the first one more - also most opinion places the second higher than the first, so I think you're in the majority not minority. The first for me was just so magical. Love them both, but the first was just glorious. Also loved the observatory!
