Forums - Nintendo - Teh Reviews - Super Mario 3D World

It's not dead, but it probably will be in the near furture!

This time, I'm doing Super Mario 3D World! I'm skipping the story, since there's barely any focus on the story.

Teh Gameplay

There's one huge thing holding this game back in the gameplay. Lots of the stuff have been done before. The rolling, long jump, the camera angle, the fact that you can only move in 8 directions, and lots of the power-ups were in 3D Land. The Green Stars are the coins with different 3D models, and they have a little too many Galaxy references for a game that isn't a Galaxy game. While it does add the Cat Suit (Which I love), the Double Cherry, Stamps, Dashing, etc, most of the gameplay ideas taken off of past games. Either way, that doesn't keep it from being bad at all.

Teh Gameplay Rating - 8.3/10

Teh Level Design

If there's one thing that makes up for the somewhat dissapointing gameplay, It's the levels. Pretty much every level in the game is so great! The levels fit perfectly for the gameplay style, and I love replaying them. It's not perfect, though. Some small parts can be tedious, and the beginning is a little lackluster, but the rest of the game makes up for it. The only problem I have is the length of, well, every level.

The most original levels would have to be the Captin Toad levels. I loved those.

Teh Level Design Rating - 9.5/10

Teh Soundtrack

The soundtrack in this game is amazing, nuff said. Listen to it. My only complaint is that they reuse some songs a little bit, but that's it.

Teh Soundtrack Rating - 9/10

Teh Multiplayer

One of the main parts of the game is the multiplayer. I'm only able to play it with one other person, but I would say It's pretty good. Don't try to own the person you're playing with. They're probably gonna get mad.

Teh Multiplayer Rating - 8/10

Teh Bonus Content + Post-Game Worlds

Luigi Bros.

Luigi Bros. is the Mario Bros. arcade game, with Luigi. Pretty much the same thing, but you can kind of cheat with the restore points. :) I love this thing.

Post-Game Worlds

After beating the main game, you unlock post-game worlds. I don't have much to say about these. They're just new levels in the game that are also great.

Teh Bonus Content + Post-Game Worlds Rating - 9/10

Overall Rating - 8.8/10

I hope you at least didn't hate this! Next should be Wind Waker HD.

Hard to agree/disagree with the gameplay score as I never played 3DLand. Good review though.

Good, in depth review. I am somewhat curious as to how you thought this game stacked up against Galaxy and 3D Land.

Way better than 3D Land, a little worse than Galaxy.

I think teh review was pretty cool. Teh score was pretty low in my opinion but you did some fair criticism.

Good review, for me it's a 9/10

Another reviewer who based his scores off other games. If you had not played galaxy and 3d land would it be higher?

Nearly all review scores are influenced by other games to some degree. If a game is a step back from a previous title, that deserves to be noted in the final review. A game that takes significant steps forward and attempts to innovate deserves more credit than a title that simply dilutes quality gameplay from a previous game in the series.

(Not to say 3D World does that, I haven't played it)
