Forums - Nintendo - Emily Rogers: Ubisoft won't comment on Wii U version of Watch Dogs

We can take this as a cancelation right? Personally I wasn't going to buy it but there is no spinning that this is a shitty move. What is their excuse for the cancellation now?

Nintendo and its "I only buy Nintendo games" fans should be mighty proud right about now. Way to bring a system with so much potential crashing down in flames.

Nintendo fans used to buy a fairly wide variety of games, unfortunately that chunk of the Nintendo fanbase eroded in the GameCube days and went to Sony/MS and never came back. But things like Wave Race 64, 1080, Star Fox 64, Killer Instinct, Turok 1/2, GoldenEye, NBA Courtside, Star Wars, even South Park 64 would sell great on the N64.

But that audience splintered away from Nintendo, now all Nintendo is left with are Mario/Mario Kart/Pokemon/Zelda fanatics that don't buy anything else but a few Nintendo franchises.

Even Nintendo themselves have a lot of trouble selling things like Pikmin and Wonderful 101 and Xenoblade to this crowd ... they don't give a crap about anything unless Mario or Link or Pikachu are on the box. And even Zelda can sometimes be an iffy proposition.

If I'm Nintendo I would pay for the port, but only if the Wii U version takes advantage of the controller and gets some exclusive content.

My guess though is Iwata will say no. Nintendo is cheap and probably doesn't want to set a precedent that third parties can strong arm them into paying for ports. If Ubi Soft was Japanese and could talk it over a few rounds of sake, maybe, but Nintendo don't roll like that with Western studios.

Do they comment on Watch Dogs for PS4 or XBox One?

Can't say I am surprised at this news. Wii U owners were warned months ago of this kind of action. Ubi is being smart about things and see the writing is on the wall. With the Rayman delay to make it multi, they saved their ass on that considering it sold best on PS3 and did alright on the 360 as well. Wii U owners didn't buy AC3, they didn't buy AC4 and they were likely not going to buy Watch Dogs. This along with the WB decision to cancel DLC for Batman is not good news for Wii U.

The real question here is: Are fans of other consoles really so desperate, that they buy these games despite being bugfests as I explained in my previous post?

I have Zombi U, Legends and Black Flag and have yet to encounter any "bugs" in them. Never encountered bugs in Assassins Creed 1 or Brotherhood on my PC either. Zero bugs in FarCry 2 or 3 on my PC. Havent encountered bugs in Mass Effect 3, Tekken, Most Wanted U or Sonic Lost World on Wii U. Ironically I did encounter a shadow bug in Wind Waker HD *gasp*, le blasphemy.

You seem to be desperately grasping at straws. You are the only person Ive seen who acts like Ubisoft publishes buggy crap. Though you lot always try to act like every other publisher is so far below Nintendos god like standards. No one judges Nintendo by the quality of their lesser titles like Pokemon Rumble U, Dr Luigi or Game and Wario but you cherry pick issues from every Ubisoft published game you own and try to present it as proof of incompetence. Thats retarded, sorry.

Both Legends and ZombiU make more practical use of the gamepad than any Nintendo game so far so I really dont know what quality and content you're going on about. To be frank that post sounded like someone desperately trying to find excuses for why Ubisoft and 3rd party games selling poorly.

And even when these games do have bugs, they usually arent game breaking and they get patched up very quickly. Unlike Nintendo 3rd partys have to support anywhere from 2 to 5 platforms at simultaneously. Seeing how long it takes Nintendo to produce ONE Wii U game at a go Id like to see how that would work out for them.

Long story short "bugfests" as you put it are rare, I think you've really blown Ubisofts failures way out of proportion. They happen but arent game breakers or as persistent as you try to make it sound. Battlefield 4 is the only game worthy of being called a bugfest right now, and even then many are still able to enjoy it.

Agreed. I rember when COD Ghost come out people where saying wont buy cause some frame rate issues. Fristly since when did Nintendo gamers care about gfx and frames. Secondly even the almighty powerful PS4 version had frame rate issues. All these things where fixed with an update on both system. That is about as extensive as the bugs got on a COD. Even without the update the games where still playable.

I see you mentioed Most Wanted U. There is a game breakg bug if you got the disc version and playingon gamepad only. Sometimes it freezes the system. Not sure if that was fixed or not. But again it didn't really stop me enjying the game as I mainly play on tv anyway.

Also I do agree bugs is an easy cop out because even Paper Mario on Wii (PAL at least) had a bug that froze the game. Even pokemon X and Y messed up your save file if you did somethig in a certain order (save progress in some store from memory). Yet people bought these games because they Nintendo.

Long story short I agree that there is only a very few games that make you go FUCK this dev and their bugs. For me it was always bathesda and their PS3 efforts mainly skyrim. I ended up swaping for 360 version. Other 120 od games I played on the HD twins seem to be p;ayable to me.

the sad part is those few of us who enjoy Nintendos innovations can't really enjoy them because majority of the crowd only buy mario.

Hell the WIi and gamepad both had loads of potential however ne one really used them because why bother if your sales will be shit anyway. Ironically my favourite WIi games control wise were Godfather, RE4, RS2 and the earlier Tiger woods games with a few COD games and Metroid to kind of fill the gaps towards the end.  Everything else was meaningless waggle even from NIntendo.

I gave Ubisoft one last chance after they delayed Rayman, but then redeemed themselves somewhat by announcing Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed IV and Watch Dogs.

If they cancel Watch Dogs my local EB games is going to have several additions to the 2nd hand bin (namely Rayman Legends, Splinter Cell and ACIV)

After that, we're done!

Is their any point to strictly gaming on or buying a wii u ?

I know people have Nintendo games to look forward to but you guys will be missing out an just too many games
Reminds me of the time I owned a n64 over a ps1, fuck that shit!
