Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Mergers And Acquisitions? What should Nintendo Acquire?

Nintendo is probably going to acquire companies in order to strengthen their health/fitness platform. People are going a bit too crazy in this thread thinking Nintendo is going to acquire Take-Two or Square Enix. Nintendo would have to plunk down billions in order to get these companies. And you know a company has to WANT to be bought first right? Like they have to agree. Do you really think Microsoft hasn't made multiple attempts to buy these massive publishers? Especially with how much money they like throw around? Iwata can't just go into his office and buy Capcom tomorrow.

Did you even read what you yourself bolded? How many Pokemon games did Nintendo sell between GTA IV and GTA V? Five! How much have they sold combined? Over 50 million. AND developement costed less, so they make more profit per unit. So they sell at least as much as Take-Two's biggest IP in the same amount of time with a higher profit margin? AND they have other IP's that simply make more than any other Take-Two IP.

You constructed the sentence incorrectly if that's the point you were trying to convey. Nintendo does not profit more per unit. The words you're looking for is that the individual budgets are much lower (which is then countered by it selling 3-10x the numbers of a normal Pokemon game), the games themselves are also cheaper, so you have to consider that as well.

Arguing against the monumental sales and cash brought in by GTA4 and GTA5 is very tough to do. At least you're trying.

The bigger point is that was only one game in five years for Take Two that was that good. If we don't forget our history, Take Two was VERY close to being bought out by EA before GTAIV came out, and they actually *lost* money the year that GTAIV came out.

The company has strengths, but are totally unable to turn that into financial stability.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I'm not talking about smaller developers like Platinum Games. I'm talking about the people thinking Nintendo is going to start buying up major publishers like Square or Capcom. And Platinum Games is unlikely as well since they're rumored to be working on an XBO exclusive.

I'm also skeptical of Platinum happening...

I'm not convinced that their relationship is that solid...

You would be hard presses to convince me Platinum doesn't feel even a little bit screwed over after The Wonderful 101...

Let's be more realistic.

Reading through this thread you get the impression that some of you just think that all Nintendo has to do is call a company up and say I'm buying you and thats it. That is not how mergers or buyouts work. An example - Nintendo could not just buy SEGA. mostly because of Sammy. SEGA and Sammy are legally the same company so If Nintendo bought SEGA they also have to buy SAMMY. When SEGA bought Atlus they didnt just buy Atlus. They bought Index and everything connected to them too(rather wanted them or not) and had to pay all their bills and liabilities. Contrary to popular belief SEGA is not broke and being tied to SAMMY gives them a large cash reserve + plus the iron grip they have on the arcade scene would be more than just a pretty penny.

I promise you. If Nintendo merges with a company it will not be a game company. They will do something similar to SEGa where they will merge with a company that will let them reach outside video games. If Nintendo buys a company it will be a C or B class level company.

Capcom games with Nintendo quality control and Nintendo DLC policy would be great.

Why would they truly care? The game was fully funded by Nintendo if I am correct. It's not like they lost money on that. Nintnedo nurtured them with mario money when nobody wanted their project (bayo2). I think that makes it quite a relationship, you know, "A friend in need is a friend indeed".

Now why would nintendo want to invest so much in Wonderful 101 (which is soooo awesome!) and let it sell so bad, that's a different story.

Platinum must have put quite a bit of time into Wonderful 101...

To put so much time into a game, only to have it treated like a bargain bin title by the publisher...

I wouldn't be able to shrug that off so easily...

You're 100% dead on. When Nintendo makes an acquistion/merger of a major nature it will not be a game company. It will be with a company that lets them branch out beyond video games.
