Forums - Nintendo - Warner Bros. cancels Arkham Origins DLC for Wii U, Nintendo sending refunds

I enjoyed Origins as much as City, and I for one am fine with the game as is.  Additional content being cancelled doesn't bother me in the least.  I don't see why this is getting so blown out of proportion.  It wasn't like it was an unfinished game that is now staying unfinished, and it's not like people didn't get money back.  People just like to have things to bitch about.

I am completely fine with Origins as well.  I don't care much for DLC, but I think this is another bad sign for Wii U.  They will slowly lose another 3rd party supporter.

some will use it to justify the sales of the game.

Harley Quinn's Revenge was awesome.

It was good, but we did not have to pay extra for it, it was included in the Armored Edition for free, otherwise (as usual) I would have not buy it, I prefer to expend my money on more disc games (I don't buy digital at all).

I know who to blame for the poor sales of this game, at least on my country, the distributor for the region (LATAM) did NOT brought the game to our country at all, it was not "kind of hard to find" it was purely IMPOSSIBLE, no store in the whole country got even 1 copy, and it had 2 positive things to push sales, first it is freaking BATMAN!!!, who everyone recognizes as a character, second the Wii U version was 10 U$ less, so it will be cheaper than the others even though it lacks the MP part, but plain average joe who likes batman is not aware of it, so for them is just cheaper and that is more important in my country, trust me.

Does Nintendo even fight for this stuff or just go oh well dont release it then. It just seems like so little care.

Like when skyrim DLC didnt come out for PS3, Sony went in and helped them get it working and gave a day 1 discount for it when it eventually came out.

Im not saying Nintendo didnt try but it does seem like there customers get the shit end of the stick alot.

Well I personally don't get DLC on any system hower I do agree it is a pretty crappy end of the stick lol.

What I find funny is they based this decision on preorder sales of the content. I don't think many Nintendo gamers preorder stuff. It is not how they do things. If you look at say Pokemon preorders they are well below the first day sales generally.

However in this case I don't think it would have mattered either way but still a stupid way to judge sales.

I think thats not true. Doesnt matter if Pokemon sold way more day 1 than preorders suggest, but the fact is it was STILL preordered, enough to be high on the charts. Can you name another game in the past few years that didnt have preorders and went on to sell big? On Ninty platforms? what about 3rd party games? What do you think Watchdogs is going to do? I'm gonna say itll probably bomb or not do anywhere close to the other versions.

Well I did say it wouldn't matter, but that is because a lot of Nintendo gamers don't buy 3rd party games to begin with and not because of preorder indications.

Mario Kart on Wii is a good example where preorder was way below final sales. 3rd party AAA games like COD and GTA are all heavly frontloaded as everyne preorders those.

Warner Bros hasn't been a video game publisher for long but they're quickly becoming one of my least favorites.

They tend to pull a lot of dickery with DLC, but at the same time their actual games have been pretty good and they are, at least, putting stuff on Nintendo platforms (and even the Vita, a la Arkham Origins, Blackgate).

DLC just seems to bring out the worst in otherwise good publishers (like Capcom. Damn).

There's also when they create games on portable systems.  If it's on both the 3DS and Vita, the Vita version is nothing more than a port of the 3DS version at higher resolution.  An example is Instead of getting the console versions of the Lego games to work on the Vita, they just ported the 3DS version.

Well thats the real issue here isnt it?

No not they are not, I dont know why people keep saying this. Fact is you dont get those numbers by JUST being frontloaded. COD games sell YEAR round, they are consistently in the top 50 until its follow up is released. Which is insane considering it is a yearly franchise. People are STILL buying GTA at full price. both PS3 and 360 versions are in the top ten and that game was released in SEPTEMBER. Its Februrary. being frontloaded is factually wrong.

But maybe you meant its not JUST frontloaded.

Yer sory not just indeed. Where as Nintendo systems games preorders are that frontloaded and people go buy the game. Which always makes me wonder why. Like we know the game will good but people jsut don't seem to preorder. I wonder if special editions and ultimate edtions etc which are limited make all the difference. It be nice to know how many COD players get the expensive one with the annual toy.

they do preorder. Ive seen all the big Ninty games on the preorder charts at some point in time. I think Ninty games just hit a ceiling of popularity and if im being frank they dont get marketed anywhere close to those of your average COD game.

I think Warner made the right choice, the game is not incomplete by any means, and I found it good, so is not like DLC is required for the game, is just extra stuff, and I made a quick pool around and very few people buy DLC on Wii U, I think bellow the 30% average, so it was a sound business decision. It sucks of course but it makes financial sense.
