The main problem I see, as you mention above, is that not everyone has all the consoles which would limit the number of participants for each game.

You could choose Indie games on PC with low required specs (I assume everyone is posting via a PC at least). Not sure how popular that would be. The other issue is how long will these games be? And how much time are users going to be given to play through?

Edit- If I have time I'd be happy to participate

Another good point. Not everyone plays at the same rhythm.

Maybe we should set longer time limits to accommodate people who play at a slower pace?

I think it depends on the game. If it was Enslaved, I think most people could play through in a couple of dedicated sessions, or a week of short sessions. Dragon Age could take 1-2 months for some.

It's a great idea! But I'm not sure if I play enough to finish one game a month, not consistently at least. But I would give it a try depending on what kind of games we are talking about.
Also we could have separate clubs for each platform, that way we aren't restricted to multiplats.

Great idea!

Would these sub-groups each have a game every month? Or would members cycle on and off as the games change?

You lost me at book, good sir.

do we drink in the club or do each other's nails?

several others have said they can't do a monthly game so what if it was like this...  4 games a year per system but offset.  multiconsole owners can join for multiple systems if you want to do more than 4 a year but slow pokes like me don't feel over pressured either if i only do sony games. so:

a nintendo game kicks off in: january, april, july, october.

a sony game kicks off in: feburary, may, august, november.

a ms game kicks off in: march, june, september, december

..or some varient thereof.  we should probably make room for multiplats too.  hrmm.

How I imagine video game "book" club after a few drinks:

I like the idea. Although with my time I wouldn't complete a game, but I'd like to partake nonetheless.
