Forums - Gaming - Don't sell the pig before its caught, aka Launch Game comparements being silly

Why the first generation of games in gen 8 has such a difference!

The raw specs of both are enough to run 1080p and 60fps. Not in all games obviously, but the argument that the XB1 isnt capable because it is weak is silly. Any multiplat that runs at 1080p on PS4 has that same potential on XB1 when properly optimized. Whether XB1 has the same effects such as particles, filtering, shadows, textures .... is another story.

Having esram a slight boost but when you have outdated drivers.......its a major annoyance.

XB1 launch games have been plagued with last minute changes to hardware speed and outdated drivers.

As the dev tools get updated and optimized, XB1 will be running 1080p with no problem. Whether the framerates are as fast as PS4 is another issue.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I'd really doubt it. With time the XBONE could easily run all its launch games in 1080p as devs get a better handle on the device, but with time the launch games will also begin to look outdated as graphics are pushed even farther. If a new multiplat next year is pushing the PS4 and just getting 1080p 30fps, no way is the XBONE version going to have the same resolution.

Personally I expect the difference between the two to increase over time.

Tagged and bookmarked. I'll be back in a year or two. Just going by the specs alone, I doubt you're right. The gap may shrink a bit, but I don't think it'll ever be even close to eliminated.

i'm not debating hat it will reach the same level, unless something what i won't mention happens.

You're saying just the framerate and some graphical features will be worse. I understand that. I'd expect resolution to be the first thing lowered though.

Isn't it a bit of exaggeration?

Really, the level of graphics everywhere, from PS4 through PC all the way to the WII U is really fine now. I think that we are approaching the point where it's really hard to make a game look even better. Especially with all those research on photorealism in gaming.

this may be in Polish, but take a look at the video there. It'll be hard to top that.

The launch games look nothing like that video, and even then that video has tons of room for improvement.

Every single gen people make comments similar to yours. I'd be shocked if this is the first time they're actually right.

Check out the launch games for PS3. Here's a pic of resistance.

That's really really outdated, yet at the time of release many people thought it looked "good enough."

The X1 GPU isn't up to par, and that's never going to change with any kind of optimization. They are both x86-64 machines, and the improvements you're gonna see from launch 'till end gen are gonna be FAR smaller than prior. Different effects, particles, textures blah blah blah are a whole another discussion.

Read: PS4 is gonna stay Full HD for most intents and purposes, and X1 (mostly) isn't going to move much beyond 720/900p.

End discussion.

I saw a couple of gen transitions. I played old pokemon, I played zelda, i plyed early call of duty, all the GTA games. Somehow this the first time I had the idea of "there is not much space to develop further". All the time I could see some clunky models, bad textures and stuff.

I just strongly believe that a certain point developing an AAA graphics game will become so expensive of a process that in order to get even such a game would have to cost 90 $.
