Better RAM, better GPU... what did you want more?
There is no way Xbone can compete with PS4 in terms of power.

MS wanted to make an entertainment center, Sony wanted to make a powerful gaming system.

| superchunk said: Pretty simple really. No devs are really comfortable with any of the new hardware yet. They are building on PS4 since its more powerful and likely simpler due to the single memory type. So they get more out of the PS4 at first and as they get better familiarized with both systems, the Xbone output will improve by larger margins than the PS4 output. Thus, for 3rd parties you'll begin to see the games look nearly identical. This is also very similar to how PS3's early 3rd party games were noticeably worse than X360. But in the end they are identical. |
They will get more from the PS4 because the GPU is superior. Both machines will improve with optomisation but the difference will always be there. The 32MB of ESRAM can't make up for the 8GB of GDDR ram. PS4 is a better and forward thinking designed machine. Its that simple! There is no magical cure for this. No secret sauce. the vapour Clouds won't help nor will DX11
Don Mattrick dropped the ball. He systematically screwed the Xbox brand with his media approach over gaming.
Any business expert can tell you he paid no attention to what Sony was doing in terms of specs, price, and PR approach. Hope he rots at Zynga. Now we gotta spend the gen waiting it out, hopefully giving MS the ephiphany Sony got with PS3 and make the successor what we want.

Its not rubbish. Both systems have similar CPU/GPU, however, the memory and other architecture is vastly different. PS4 is likely the lead due to this simplicity of single memory pool and increased raw power. Thus devs in these launch games have a better handle and produce initially better results. Its going to be quite the wake up call to many a fanboy when Xbone/PS4 3rd party games are really almost identical in a year or so. Neither machine is being used to its full power or very efficiently at this time. Both will improve a lot. |
PS4 was designed as a powerful games console. With that in mind they opted for unified 8GB GGDR Ram and enhanced the APU with fututre proofing like GPU compute etc. X1 was designed as an entertainment device which can play games. It has a weakr GPU and older DDR3 Ram. The 32MB ESRAM was added as a band aid. As the generation goes the PS4 will pull ahead even more. The only person who's gonna get a wakeup call is yourself! No optomisation can overcome the GPU and GDDR5 ram weakness. Once you hit the GPU limit thats it! Otherwise why would anybody by an AMD HD 7870 over an 7850????
The power difference is exactly what you would expect on PC between a 7770 and a 7870 there is no magic that will close that gap.
Even the Tomb raider frame rates are directly comparable between the PC version running on those graphics cards.

This 100 times, MS are fine with the x1 being less powerful then the ps4, only reason they damage control is for publicity and to attract attention. They want to sell the x1 as an entertainement system and not just as a console, they bank on using kinect and tv features as other selling points, hence not needing the added power to attract attention.

The gap is actually bigger in tomb raider, x1 at times drops to 900p, has lower resolution effects, worse AF, etc.....and still has lower fps.

It is clear with microsoft's strategies throughout the past five years that they would rather create an overall balanced entertainement system, then a console with other usages. I don't think they are going to turn tides, you can tell by their emphasis on kinect and tv apps as well as the next quantic dream game having a possible tv series. The x1 is still a very good gaming console, and MS are giving in terms of games what they have always done, as well as new ips.
