It won't be the graphics that will determine if it's a great Zelda game or not, it will be the gameplay that matters. Wind Waker proved that photo-realism in Zelda is not necessary.

I honestly do not care what graphical style Nintendo chooses for Zelda U.  I know whatever it is will be fine for the game that they create.

I'm hoping Nintendo does something a little darker and eerie with this one, closer to Majora's Mask, and less like Skyward Sword.  ALBW for 3DS proved to me that there is a lot of goodness left to be had in new Zelda games, and that the best of the series is not relegated to the past with HD remakes.  I think Zelda U will pleasantly surprise people even more than ALBW did.  Zelda seems to be in good hands.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

I would personally wank Aonuma off to get a Majora´s Mask 2 on the WiiU .

The mask transformations/mechanics and the scripted NPC routines have a lot of potential left.

I find the argument about the graphics shocking - why can't people who fully embrace the cartoon look admit the real reasons for the low sales of Skyward Sword? It sold less than half of what TP sold. You saying people who bought a $250 Wii at launch balked at getting a $20 motion plus add on to the point where millions of Zelda fans didn't even bother? Especially with the bundled remote version of the game?

You're deluding yourselves. People just didn't care.

Obligatory comment on how I'd like to see a Zelda game with an art style that mimics Kingdoms of Amalur.

Then let me elucidate my point. You cannot pin a game's sales based on one factor (in this case, art style). Correlation does not imply causation. That is pure scientific reasoning.

Half the sales with more than quadruple the install base really must mean something though. You wouldn't brush such a major factor under the rug if it supported your position.

I don't brush any factors under the rug. That's the exact opposite of what I'm doing. What you and curl-6 are doing are downplaying any other possible sales factors because of your preception on the matter, and not applying substantial reasoning.

Let me put it this way: you can believe that art design is the driving force in the discrepancy between the sales of particular games. But, until you have proof, instead of faulty reasoning, stop acting like it's an obvious fact. It's annoying and you should know better.

I wonder if you would argue the same points if you didn't happen to like the art style. Frankly, the people who prefer the whimsical art styles are in a vocal minority - definitely less people, but more passionate. That doesn't make them 'right' about their preferences. It doesn't make those preferences the best possible choice for keeping Zelda a top series appealing to the most people.
