I want to see more of the combat. Right now what I have seen is Uncharted Final Fantasy with cinematic set pieces. Need to see more of how leveling and all is handled. So, my expectations are muted now as we still do not have a release date so 2015 at earliest.

Well I think after Final Fantasy XIII, XIII-2, XIII Lightning Returns and Final Fantasy XIV (original launch) they have underdog status so reactions will be:

Terrible: The name final fantasy needs to be allot more literal
Bad: They need to reboot the franchise
Average: Final Fantasy is on the slow decline
Good: Better than final fantasy XIII
Great: Final Fantasy is on the right track
Fantastic: Stands up there with VI, VII ad IX

I am cautiously optimistic. It could be the best game of the upcoming generation. It could also be another train wreck like XIII.

It all comes down to it starting as Versus XIII, though. I have this deep belief that XIII was ruined by the executive oversight. The initial ideas soured as they drafted and some head honcho insisted on sticking with the sinking ship. As a fan of the series, I think the main titles are overrated and that the spinoffs are surprisingly good, probably because the spinoffs don't have as much executive oversight. As it didn't get promoted to main title until reasonably late in development, most of XV has been developed as a spinoff.

But it's still a big budget game and might have gotten oversight on that note alone.

His thrashing of FF XIII is the most fun I've had out of that piece of trash.

I have pretty high hopes. It won't be the greatest Final Fantasy of all time, but it'll get good reception and breath new life into the franchise, saving it from demise. As things are headed now, if XV doesn't get good reception and sales, I see XV being the last entry on consoles, and the last FF recognizable by original fans of the franchise. But I don't think that will happen. XV will do reasonably well, and will be the beginning of a new era of Final Fantasy as a leader in great RPGs.
