Forums - Microsoft - 343 Industries Hires Pro Halo Player for Upcoming Xbox One

Pro Halo player "GH057ayame" from Team Carbon has been hired by 343 Industries for the next entry in the franchise.

Eric Hewitt, more commonly known as "GH075" in the pro Halo circuit, has been tapped by 343 Industries to presumably help the studio in developing the multiplayer component for its upcoming Halo game, which was announced at E3 last year. This was revealed by Hewitt on Twitter where he posted an image of his boarding pass to Seattle where 343 Industries is located and even changed his profile to reflect his new employment.

For those unfamiliar with the pro player, Hewitt helped create the settings for Halo 4's official competitive playlists and also assisted with last year's Halo 4 Global Championships in Austin, Texas, where he worked on rules and settings and did "shoutcasting" for matches. This is not the first time 343 Industries has plucked a pro Halo player to officially join the studio, as it also hired pro players "Dersky" and "Neighbour" last year.

While the next Halo game by 343 is still untitled, this recent hiring should be good news for franchise fans since people who are big-time Halo players can now give their input in the game's production.

In recent Halo news, 343 Industries confirmed that the Xbox One Halo "journey will begin this year."

I retired from Halo 4 with 44k kills and 20k assists. I need Halo 5 to be great for the competitive players.

It's definitely a good sign that 343i has hired several pro Halo players to work on the multiplayer, as well as the fact that they've doubled the size of the multiplayer team compared to Halo 4. I really hope that they play it smart and have two different sets of playlists for fans of classic Halo and modern Halo multiplayer, the lack of classic Halo multiplayer at release was a major factor in Halo 4's multiplayer drop-off. Also I really hope they can manage to get the game well balanced at release, Halo Reach and Halo 4 had definite balance issues. Also, please have more than 10 maps at release, that was way too low, and design the maps so that they work on most gametypes like they used to in the earlier Halo games, in Halo 4, the Team Slayer playlist only had 5 maps at release.

I can agree with all of this. Classic multiplayer needs to play a role.

343 need to stop outsourcing.

The maps, armor designs and Forge were outsourced.

Shouldn't they be going for the casual crowd? The needs and wants of a pro player =/= those of the average player.

No, they tried going for the casuals with Halo 4.

Halo needs to go back to its roots

Agreed. They tried to casualize Halo 4 by making it more like CoD, it ended up chasing off most of the fans, that's the main reason why Halo 4 saw a much faster drop-off than any previous Halo game. Though it certainly can't hurt to keep the Halo 4 style multiplayer around for those who actually liked it, they definitely need to bring back classic Halo for the longtime fans. I think that's the trick to making Halo 5 both a series bestseller and drastically reducing the post-release drop-off, catering to the fans of both the new and the old, and with double the multiplayer team size I think they can pull that off.

They need to bring back a leveling system that made you look like a God if you capped it. People would fear 50's in Halo 2 and 3, and Inheritors in Halo Reach. 130 in Halo 4 can be done easily.

What they NEED to do is hire Bungie lol. Been a die hard player since before XBL was even a THING, and while I thought the games was decent, Halo 4 didn't feel like Halo. They went way too far with MP (load outs? This isn't COD) and the music was AWFUL. Seriously. Outside of MP being unHalo like, the game misses O'Donnell's score A LOT. I never realized just how important his music was to the feel of that franchise until he was gone.
