Shouldn't they be going for the casual crowd? The needs and wants of a pro player =/= those of the average player.

No, they tried going for the casuals with Halo 4.

Halo needs to go back to its roots

Agreed. They tried to casualize Halo 4 by making it more like CoD, it ended up chasing off most of the fans, that's the main reason why Halo 4 saw a much faster drop-off than any previous Halo game. Though it certainly can't hurt to keep the Halo 4 style multiplayer around for those who actually liked it, they definitely need to bring back classic Halo for the longtime fans. I think that's the trick to making Halo 5 both a series bestseller and drastically reducing the post-release drop-off, catering to the fans of both the new and the old, and with double the multiplayer team size I think they can pull that off.

They need to bring back a leveling system that made you look like a God if you capped it. People would fear 50's in Halo 2 and 3, and Inheritors in Halo Reach. 130 in Halo 4 can be done easily.
