why do you buy a console if hardware matters?

What PC can play halo, Uncharted, God of war, Destiny, MLB the show, Infamous, Drive club, Gran turismo, tales of xillia. and on and on.........

If they had he rights to them  any decently powered PC could, you kinda arguing software beats hardware with this stance.

Except software cannot exist without hardware, nor does progress or new experiences happen without new hardware (see wii motion controls, new effects, bigger worlds, better AI etc...)

I agree i posted earlier my stance on it page 4 i believe

Same thing with the Wii U. I'm confident it will get stronger sales with the 2014 line up but do you think it be getting PS4/XO multiplats when it gets a larger install base? NOPE! Games like the Witcher 3 are 30 times bigger than the last game which is miles pass Wii U capabilites. You Wii U guys could be playing awesome multiplats in the future if Nintendo wasn't so cheap. Blame Nintendo. Don't defend them.

Its not really about Nintendo being cheap, its about their obsession to revolutionalize.

They can easily revolutionize with more powerful hardware.

The Wii U gamepad with next gen specs would have probably given them the edge over the competition.

The problem is who would pay 500 for a system like that?  Nintendo's consoles mentally are seen as a toy (even though all console systems are toys) by the public and automatically needs to be in the 350 MAX bracket at launch. In order for Nintendo to brake even with their console and a gamepad, it would probably need to cost as much as a XBOX ONE and would only have the same sepcs as the XBOX ONE. This would still mean PS4 would kill it as it turns out the gamepad isn't really a desired item by most.

Look at gamecube was the most powerful system yet not many devs and people committed to it. If hardware specs mattered why did everyone go to PS2? To watch dvd movies?

Before Nintendo can do what you what:

1. They need signedup 3rd party devs with guranteed X Y Z games and with penalty clauses for leaving the system within 3 years.

2. Mentality of people needs to change that a Nintendo system is worth more than $350.

I'm a Nintendo fan. I think graphics don't matter. I think art style matters. I think performance does matter. I thought the Zelda Wii U tech demo was boring. I don't want Zelda for Wii U to look anything like the tech demo because that's not what Zelda is about. I think that Super Mario 3D World is beautiful because of it's art style. I think Super Mario Galaxy looks better because of it's art style.

what is it about ? why cant you get what u want from zelda why others get a more grown up visual zelda.

Because Zelda is quirky and humble and colorful. That tech demo was not quirky or humble. It was serious, desaturated, and show off-y.

I think WW is the only Zelda to fall under that category. TP was pretty dark and depressing and also visually impressive compared to other games on the Wii and GC. Majoras Mask was kinda dark too. You can't judge what a series is based off one seperate example and lot of people prefered TP's art style over the other Zelda games. I liked the tech demo... like everyone else.

I nominate this for most bull crap in a thread so far this year.

If you're not sensible enough to have a proper debate then just read the discussions on the sidelines like a moron. I mean you haven't even given your opinion on the subject... Facepalm

This thread fills me with contempt. It's $599 US Dollars all over again. How dare I, as a customer, defend Toyota for selling me "shitty" cars. Can't I see it would be far better for every car company to make high-quality cars like Lamborghini?

The OP's assertion that the Wii U is "limiting developers" by not being more powerful is hilarious in light of the massive delays Nintendo's first-party projects have seen because they're not used to working with such powerful hardware. More powerful hardware would only have resulted in worse delays. "We just got the word from up top, the Wii U has been made way more powerful. Up all of our assets to 1080p resolution." Yeah, that wouldn't be expensive or time-consuming.

But that makes no sense. its not a hardware issue then, its a " Ninty devs are incompetent issue" how come they are the only ones that seem to be having these issues? The Wii U isnt limiting anyone, their not limiting Ninty devs cause they barely no what they are doing anyway and its not limiting 3rd parties cause they dont even seem to be bothering in the first place.

people would still buy those games if the PS360 was the only option for the next 10 years. They wouldn't suddnely go fuck this looks shit and not buy it.

The problem is the Wii U isn't cheap. The console is only a little bit cheaper and the games are just as expensive if not more so. It'd be like if Toyota priced their cars only a few hundred dollars cheaper than a Lamborghini.

And of course the hardware limits developers. Have you not seen what third parties are doing on the PS4? Battlefield 4 would not be possible on the Wii U. ACIV is nowhere near as good on the Wii U. It is therefore by definition limiting developers.

The power of hardware is indeed important, but only because of the possibilities more powerful hardware presents. Not realities. The 3DO may have been the most powerful console of its time, but few developers ever made it worth the $700 price.

No sales would stagnate like they have been, facts don't support your argument. Last gen sales were declining across the board for the last 2 years. Also doesn't explain why despite very little software ps4 has had a massive launch, largely based on games that are available on ps3 and 360.

hardware does not mather, framerate does not matter, resolution does not matter , third partys dont matter, power does not matter , sales dont matter

nothing matters for some people here

Games matter :). Do you think The Last of Us is a shit game because it's only 720p and 30 fps?
