Forums - Sony - What if Sony never entered the console market?

If Sony didn't enter the market by themselves, gaming would still be a kid's hobby and the Gamestation wouldn't have sold 120M.

Sony and Nintendo both made their respective games on the GameStation, combining the awesomeness of the PS1 and N64.

I pondered the same thing back in late 2012...

So we don't get it

The Last of Us
Grand Theft Auto (the PS console made it popular to begin with and was only popular on the PS2 until GTA IV came out on 360)
Uncharted series
God of War series
Killzone series
Infamous series
Gran Turismo series
Crash
Rachet and Clank
Warhawk
Starhawk
Metal Gear (Also was more popular on PS)
And a shit ton of other games and franchises...I don't think there would be anything left to play.

Don't worry, those games still exist. They are what made the 7th Generation the closest race in history. In addition, Sony keeps making Crash Bandicoot and maintains rights on Spyro to compete against Nintedo.

I would have quit gaming a long time ago.

Sony created the modern gaming.
Okay that was too much, but Sony pushed off the limits of creativity, many franchises have seen the light thanks to them. I'm not saying Ninty or Microsoft didn't bring any of memorable ones. It's just that Sony brought more varieties.

I would be Nintendo only. A console Sony+Nintendo could be cool though, imagine a mix of their first party... amazing. Still, I'm happy Sony entered, because they changed the thought that video games are just for kids and can be more deep. And no less important, they expanded gaming world-wide, besides US & Japan.

With Nintendo's inability to push tech in their hardware, relying on their same core 5 franchises milked over and over , along with the need to not improve the quality in their handhelds to anything beyond 2002 technology, I would have quit gaming a long time ago.

Maybe not, If Sega stayed in the race. Lord knows I love me some sonic.

Hard to say. I would guess gaming would have remained niche longer and the big breakout might have been the Wii in even more respects than it was. Of course Sega might still be around and Microsoft might have entered later or not at all. For all we know a completely different company might have taken Sony place. Fun to speculate though.

Our games and everything gaming would be way over priced. Competition is a really good thing to have.
