Did any of you defend BP when they claimed they didnt know what the contractors were doing at the oil rig?

Its not that hard to understand. Microsoft didnt come out defending themselves. Machinima came out and was honest and said it was their contract between them and their Content Providers. Why would Microsoft be involved in another companies contracts?

The question how did microsoft not know about 'the other companies contracts' that benefited MS more than the 'other company'

we will never know for a fact, but I dont believe it for a second that machinima acted in the interest of MS without them knowing or benefiting in any way from it.

They didnt. They said its a standard contract they use for all their purposes. They simply added in Xbox One because thats what the ads were for. These werent specially made contracts for just this occasion. EA's contracts to its Content Providers has EXACTLY the same wording.

MS had no need to get involved any further than to approach Machinima and ask them to start a campaign using their content providers. This is Machinimas mistake, but even then Machinima say the confidentially isnt for the promotion itself. Machinima and others have obviously been using this standard contract for ages. Just so happens Xbox is on it, so it NOW makes news.

You just really cannot help yourself can you?

When Sony made fake reviewers for movies, bet your ass, there were threads on vgc about it. I distinctly remember it, thinking, "wtf does sony pictures have to do with vidya". When things happen in vidya that people don't like, it gets attention. It's simple as that. There is no anti-xbox conspiracy, and ya'll are not victims.

No.  It's comparing ignorance of action to ignorance of action.  This is the context.  Please be reasonable.

VGChartz ladies and gentlemen, VGChartz.

Eh, I simply found it really funny that something as major as the BP oil spill was being brought up in a thread about Microsoft, Machina and YouTube. As in a "Only on VGC"

the impact of the oil spill is irrelevant. The point is that playing dumb didnt work.

on the one hand they were actually guilty themselves....

Compliancy today requires companies to knwo even what their third party contracts entail, if you are in one with said third party, google PCI compliance...........MS knew well what the overall deal was. Again if you dealt with compliance, IT at work this is common knowledge.

No, just no. All they know is what is in their own agreement. Which would be price, duration, numbers of hits and so on, but no info about contracts with the suppliers of the content

Simply false, again google PCI compliance. Any company that enters a third party agreement is RESPONSIBLE to know the fulld etails of said agreement and what the third party's dealings are with regards to said contract. MS would never have signed off on this without it getting signed off by legal

Microsoft hasnt entered into a 3rd party agreement. They had the first party agreement with Machinima. They werent involved in the contract between Machinima and content providers. So they ( MS ) didnt ENTER into any 3rd party agreement. They didnt sign off on anything to do with Machinima. Machinima have made that VERY CLEAR.

There wasnt actually. I was here then. I certainly dont remember it and I was much worse then. LOL. Id have been all over that.

Im not playing victim. Im probably regarded amongst Sony fans on this site as a bad MS fanboy. Actually PM me like I said earlier. This is all silly in an open forum.

This kind of reminds me of Justin Bieber's friend getting arrested for possession of drugs, even though when the police did the inspection, the drugs were in plain sight. For all we know Bieber did no drugs, but I doubt it. Same with MS. As a past employer I've taken the blame for several of my employer's actions. It's how things work. Am I sure that this is the case here? Nope, but I take their statements with a massive grain of salt.

Are you seriously claiming that you were here 24/7 and that there is no way you missed some threads? Come on, dude. This is such an unbelievable claim. What happens if someone digs up those threads? You're gonna say "my bad" or completely ignore it? Point being, there is no way you can remember everything no matter how frequently you visit a forum.

Unknown or known, is it worse or better than what others are doing and have been doing? Companies have been designing Facebook campaigns and other online efforts for quite some time, it's an enormous arena out there.

What about this?

http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB1028069195715597440

Kind of dishonest but still pretty common. Is it within your personal or any sort of general moral framework?

Or this one?

http://www.timeslive.co.za/scitech/2013/05/17/nintendo-makes-grab-for-lets-play-youtube-advertising-revenues

Forcing your advertisements on user generated content and/or claiming the revenue of others. This is sort of the other way around in some ways; Microsoft pay youtubers to promote their product while Nintendo demands payment from people promoting their products.

This whole Microsoft debacle is based on something old and widespread, I can't see how this is morally worse than hiring actors to pose as tourists or trying to grab the money made off of someone else's work. The world loves to see Microsoft as the massive and evil conglomerate incarnate but they're not actually worse than most other giants; they're just not as good at subterfuge (or; they don't care as much about public perception), or at least this is the case in their gaming sector.

But there arent ten ms fans
I can name 10 just off the top of my head
Selnor
Darkrequiem
Endimion
Kirbs
Kowen
Jaywood
Nightwing or whatever his name is
Jlmurph
Sales
Seece
Darth tigris
Gergroy
Fallen
And many many more

It was a figure of speech.

Look Microsoft werent to blame on this occasion. Thats all there is to it. It wasnt Microsofts contract. We havent seen the contract between Microsoft and Machinima. The one posted online is between Machinima and their Content Providers. Im absolutely sure Microsoft push the boundries like any company. But this whole fiasco with the youtube thing was crazy stupid. It helps for people to have all the facts first.

And which figure of speech would that be? Hyperbole? Irony? Detractio? Litotes?

I agree there is no proof of MS involvement and Machinima may simply be contractual to function independently.

My only point is don't try to influence the site founder about how his site is going to lose demographic because of the Sony fans. You have an agenda to push, then do it elsewhere, otherwise you're participating in the very same behavior you are accusing others of.

Easy fella. Ive been much longer than you. I know the demographics with all due respet much better than you. Point is there was easily 10x more Xbox fans back then here. And they are still fans ( I have them on Xbox Live ), Ive tried to get them to come back. But they wont. They say its to far gone. Is it? I dont know. But I wasnt trying to influence the site creator at all. He almost never posts on VGC. For him to post about this imo shows just how bad this has all become. Id be happy to continue this further in PM. But as you say I dont want to carry on here and appear like Im trying to influence anything. PM me if you want.

"I've been here much longer than you"
Selnor: created Sept 07- 77months
Prof: Feb 08- 72 months

5 months is 6% difference.
I guess that's another figure of speech? I'm guessing it's definitely hyperbole then, though I find it to be irony.

Secondly, vgc was fucking toxic when I joined here. Rampant Sony hate everywhere, people trying to push HD-DVD simply to hurt BR and ps3 sales, people making threads DAILY about Sony music or pictures DRM, Bluray rates, mocking left and right. Oh and those goddamn 599$ threads about ps3. Hilarious now that xb1 is literally the same price as ps3 at launch, and not a thread about it, not even from Sony fans. Not even Nintendo fans were so brutal. When people said "Launch aligned, ps3 is doing better", xbox fans would laugh, post trolling pictures, and straight up mock them. Xbox fans right now get far less hate than I remember Sony fans having to put up with. Oh, people are hating on MS because they have kinect surveillance contracts? Oh people are hating because MS is making contracts with devs that hold back the quality of ps4 versions? Just fanboys hating! Sony got trashed for literally everything and anything, even things like failed past products. "I'll never support Sony, not after they failed with minidisc, and beta, you just can't trust their products". I've actually read dozens if not hundreds of posts like that back in the day.

History lesson:
Everything changed when Sony released the ps3 slim, at the new low price point, which spurred sales. Darthdevi was probably the one person that changed the landscape, attracting more sony fans to the site with his great threads, and positivity, and the whole "B_E_L_I_E_V_E" thing, which of course was also derided with xbox fans writing "D_E_N_I_A_L" or "M_A_K_E B_E_L_I_E_V_E" or can't have "B_E_L_I_E_V_E without L_I_E".

Then as time went on and ps3 kept closing the gap further and further, xbox fans left, because they talked a lot of shit, and now were getting harassed back in revenge. It's only natural that as Sony has its best launch ever, and is besting the box, that Xbox fans are leaving.

ANyway, I digress. This is my last post about it, I won't continue longer. I opted not to pm this conversation because you got to say your piece out in the open, and I should too.

Alright, so how much did Microsoft pay Machinima to be the fall guy here?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

This is pure gold after the over reaction and fake concern from some people here, trying to shit on Microsoft simply because its Microsoft.

Pure gold. Hilarious. And this is coming from a Sony guy.

Can we call it "concern trolling"? I like that. Concern trolls.

You are no Sony guy. And Microsoft found it important enough to address this issue for a reason.

Ive been a Sony guy since before you even joined this site, bubblegamer, anyone who knows anything about this community would know that

The reason Microsoft found it important enough to address, being everyone was talking shit about Microsoft.

You have been shunned by your own people.
