Forums - Gaming - Forget MS.. EA is paying 10 dollar CPM!

This is one of those things where yeah it sucks that it goes on but at the same time, you know it goes on so there's not much point in getting upset about it. Unless you're someone who actually puts trust into these people on Youtube or reviewers in general in which case let this be a lesson that you shouldn't. By all means watch their videos for their insight and personality and gameplay of the games, but idk why anyone would value their opinion on something over their own. If I wanna try a game I will, no matter what any of these guys say. How could anyone be shocked that they would try to make money, or that corporations would try to exploit them? Look at those links NiKKoM posted. Companies have done far worse.

I still don't' see the big deal.

They are NOT asking people to lie. Just skipping a marketing company and asking others to make commercials for them.

I don't get all the hoopla regarding this or MS.

Time to setup up my youtube account

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

The problem is that your viewers might not know you're making a commercial and could perceive what you say inthe videos as a personal endorsment of the product rather than one that was paid for. If you recommended me a product, I'd take your consideration a lot more seriously than if an employee at Microsoft recomended me a product. There have been tons of cases handled by the FTC because of its guidelines; why should youtubers and the videogame industry be held to a separate standard?

Looks like Sony, Samsung etc. do this too. Are people here gonna claim what they do is illegal as well or is it only illegal when MS does it?

Who cares? Companies are in the business of promoting their goods.

This type of thing happens all the time EVERYWHERE in business. Just because a few companies get called out doesn't mean a damn thing.

I believe Samsung just got fined 340k for breaking FTC guidelines. It's always been illegal... Is it not supposed to be illegal when its Microsoft's turn?

I think the main problem with the MS thing is that

a) they don't allow any negativity towards the X1 or its games
and
b) the youtubers were supposed to keep it a secret that they were paid by MS, which is illegal

This doesn't seem to do either, aside from telling them not to do videos "focusing" on the glitches.

o yeah forgot about that part:

You agree to keep confidential at all times all matters relating to this Agreement and any Assignment including, without limitation, the Details and Compensation listed above.

You understand that You may not post a copy of this Agreement or any Assignment or any terms thereof online or share them with any third party without EA's prior written consent. And heres the thing. Thats legal. Same as Machinimas one. Its illegal to hide the advertising not the rest.

I guess that affects only people who use youtube as a source for reviews. I didn't even know there were such people until now.
