If PS4 had been released in Japan, it would have sold between 33K and 58K, and the PS4 sales would climb up to 221 K - 246 K range.
This means, with Japan included, and despite the supply issues in US and elsewhere, PS4 would already start selling more than twice as much as XB1 globally.
PS4 sales / XB1 sales (With Japan included)
Max => 245849 / 106010 = 2.32 (30% - 70%)
Min => 220951 / 106010 = 2.08 (32% - 68%)

And if X1 would have been released in the rest of the countries in Europe, the numbers would be quite different. what is the purpose of playing the "what if" game?
|
I am not just trying to play a hypothetical "what if" game. These numbers are based on VGChartz Data, regarding Japanese and Global Sales, and projections from PS3 to PS4. I have purposefully given a large Interval to double check whether or not the expected numbers could be misleading but they are not. I am giving these numbers to show "What kind of a trend we can expect in 2014 in terms of average weekly market sale".
There is a reason why XB1 is not released in OTHER COUNTRIES. Because nobody knows it there. Xbox is a brand known only in the English speaking world, save some hardcore gamers who would know ANYTHING. (When I say everyone, I mean OVER 95%, while nobody implies BELOW 5%). So XB1 has little chance in those OTHER territories mainly because
- They will be virtually as hostile to XB1 as Japan, except some weird market factors (as in Brazil, where taxation is a huge bitch)
- Those markets are tiny, all of them together possibly equal UK or so.
- Hardware may sell in those countries but the software market is even tinier. Developing countries usually don't have disposable income and habit of paying on intangible assets (software, games etc...)
Even worse for MS, this is only the beginning. PS4 sales in US will increase, so it will no longer be 1-to-1, with PS4 taking the lead by at least 20% in the long run, and XB1 will start to become irrelevant in the non-English speaking world. So, yes, 2-to-1 is the BEST POSSIBLE MIRACLE SCENARIO that Microsoft can only hope for.

Actually PS4 numbers would be the same as now, because there isn't extra supply to be sold there. Now Xbone would benefit

You are actually right. I was implicitly assuming that the supply weren't an issue. The analysis is still very useful to show the expected weekly market share in the upcoming weeks after the Japanese release.
