Forums - Sony - PS4 Camera actually selling quite well

What you mean for voice-chat in games? Don't you just use the included headset/mic thing (that connects to controller) for that?

I think somehow the meme that a VIDEO camera is required for MICROPHONE functionality has just somehow taken over.

Possibly due to XBone's Kinect being "associated" with voice control and that carrying over to general console gamer perceptions, even though such an association with a VIDEO camera makes zero technical sense, and said voice control functions should work with ANY microphone. I believe since MS removed the requirement to have Kinect plugged in, that you actually can still use voice control if you have a microphone plugged in.

Apparently both Sony and MS are happy for people to have this misunderstanding if it leads to them selling a more expensive product.

This kind of blows my mind, but the reality is, since some of the best in game applications for Kinect on the X360 were voice commands, consumers began to associate one with the other. It's gone out of hand now that many consumers actually believe something like Kinect is necessary for voice recognition, voice commands, etc. but whether it was intentional or not, one must give kudos for the successful creation of a fallacy many have swallowed hook line and sinker.

In short, if it doesn't require facial recognition, motion sensing or motion activated user input ("motion controls"), Kinect isn't necessary; a simple mic will do.

The Playstation Move may not be original, but it's the best use of motion controls out of the three. In my opinion it's Move, Wiimote, then Kinect. It might be the best, but it has the least amount of games for it unfortunately, and unless Sony supports it early, it'll have no games for the PS4 either.

Sony should release a PS4 Sports Champions and release a very basic demo. In the demo they could have archery with just one target and five arrows to shoot at it, table tennis with the lowest difficulty setting opponent only hitting it to one side, a single course of frisbee golf and a single course of golf. Other games could be on the full game, like the rest of what's available on Sports Champions 1 and 2. With online play this time around.

I'd buy a Playstation Eye for the PS4 if there was a next gen Sports Champions on it.

Agreed... For 'motion' games, I think PS Move really is the best..
Even if less 'advanced' it is more tangible, which is the point with that kind of thing.
That, and 6 Axis really is great as 'auxiliary' control to more conventional games.
Pretty much all the Kinect motion sensing usages for such games seem better to use 6 Axis for.

It really is a joke about the voice control/camera meme thing, I think the fact that people don't
necessarily think about what they actually are, but just defer to the brand naming is a big part of it.
If I had a dollar for every MS fanboy* who raved on about how Kinect will ensure XBone's reign,
for nothing to show up there except voice control that PS4 (or hell, a freaking iPhone) can do just fine.

* not disparaging anybody who just like MS exclusive games, or personally resonates with the 'media experience',
more just those who deny objective reality and fall for the kool-hard harder than MS themself...

I'm still waiting for the damn camera to be back in stock is even harder to find that the PS4

there is no real need for a camera, Voice commands are meh, they seem to better intrigrated in XB1, but either if they were, the OS is pretty streamlined that its just faster to use the controller than voice commands, no matter how good they will ever be. add to that there are no games that need it other than the playroom, which just feels like that game you try once and say "ohh cool" but never bother with it again.

Actually is not for me I'm a grey market seller in my country and all my clients with PS4 ask me about the camera. I didn't believe it would sell and didn't buy any at launch, I was wrong.

Do you sell body parts too?

I  <3  Motion control options in games like The Amazing Spider Man, Tiger Woods/PGA Tour, Sports Champions 1&2,  Carnival Island, On Rail shooter House of the Dead series,  MLB SHOW - Home Run Derby, Virtua Tennis, Order Up/Cooking Mama style games, 3D Platformers like Wii Scooby Doo games/Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension/Epic Micky 2. Dance related games. High Velocity Bowling. etc. games.

Sony should definetly push it for streamers and gamers alike.

I want to see how much further it can evolve, and how many new IP's can take advantage of it personally.

It is now in stock in uk

Do any other PS4 games than The Playroom support the camera yet? Are some interesting titles announced which will (probably) make good use of the camera?

If not, my camera goes straight to eBay as long as the demand is high.
