Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo needs to use their female characters more often in playable form

Super Mario 3d world finally brought back Peach as a playable character which is great but Nintendo should have had her as playable in all of the NSMB multiplayer games as well.  In fact they should have an equal amount of male and female characters to choose from.  Princess Daisy, Rosalina and Toadette all deserve a spot on the player select screen.  I'd even be ok with Nintendo making them copies of the other characters already available.

I've wanted to see this for a long time, my daughters joined me for a game of SM 3d world earlier today and wanted to know why they couldn't play as one of the other princess's.  Adding more character options in these games is a must.  I've always been a huge fan of playing as peach myself.

I've always wanted a LoZ game where you play as Zelda (no Zelda's Adventure does not count), who doesn't want to go on an epic quest as the princess of Hyrule herself? And instead of the usual sword gameplay perhaps Zelda could focus on magic instead. Or have a spin off ninja assassin game where you play as Sheik, I've always wanted to assassinate Tingle.

You obviously have no idea how hard it is to program dynamic dresses.

I'd play that! I think most of us would too. Opening up the Wii U to a larger percentage of female gamers would be great. I really want to see more games that girls can relate with, strong characters with good gameplay. Taking a page out of Disney's book of marketing to girls would certainly help grow their business. Imagine a 4 swords type game with Zelda as a playable character?  That'd be a lot of fun!

Dang it boutros stole my joke. Then again it was bound to happen. Here, the man himself said so: http://www.destructoid.com/peach-s-dress-the-reason-for-her-not-being-playable-in-new-mario-wii-152201.phtml.

Those dress physics, they be hardcore.

I want a new Zelda game damn it... And No, I don't mean a Zelda game where you play as Link... I personally think Zelda is such an interesting character apart from when shes not being kidnapped that is... Just imagine playing as her during the time when link disappeared in the Ocarina of Time and see what she did for those 7 years... I think it would make a great story and game

It might pay off for Nintendo to have more women characters...
Plenty of feminists have criticized the video game industry for so frequently depicting women as damsels in distress (with some notable and fantastic, though arguable very sexual used exceptions)...
More everyday depictions of women overcoming adversity may garner some kind of positive press...

Have a nice day...

Yes the depiction of women in games is awful.  Nintendo needs to take a lead on this.  It'd open up those blue oceans again.

I would hope Nintendo restores Samus to her former glory (especially since she's my favourite Nintendo character), Other M just left a bad taste in many people's mouths.

Metroid anyone? But yes they should, not for the sake of just being there, but actually contributing to the story, Super Mario Bros series being the exception, since story isn't usually that important.
