Forums - Microsoft - Maybe i can break a scoop a little..pretty Sure Titanfall Alpha is 720P...

Well I personally and most expected it to be 720, but I recently gave myself a 20 minute crash course in pixel counting and tried it on Titanfall Allpha screens...

Now I'm VERY inexperienced and uneducated on the matter, but it does appear to be 720P from what I could tell.

What you have to do is count steps and pixels. My crude methods could discern about 7-8 steps for 13 pixels. I'm probably doing it wrong, but basically that's about a 2:3 ratio. Which is what you expect for 720P (720:1080=2:3).

With lots of caveats, it could be less than 720P really, you have to count a lot of steps to get more granular with the res. Plus the pics I used (only available) were very poor quality as well making it difficult to count any longer edges for more precision...

Kind of disappointing but expected, IF my work is correct.

edit: There's also nothing saying the final retail couldn't be a different resolution, though it seems unlikely. We know some PS4 games were even patched to 1080P after launch. I can only speak to the Alpha. Also, to reiterate again, I'm a noob and could be just wrong.

A link to the screen shot you are looking at would be nice cause the ones I found are in 1080p....

Yeah I counted a while ago and it is 720p. Congrats for learning the basics though.

Can you explain to me how you counted and walk me through the process??

(hehe)

standard 720p resolution is actually 1280x720

Duh.

I just counted the vertical res (because I'm a noob and lazy), which appeared to be in the ballpark of 720 lines.

From that we can pretty much assume 720P. It's not like anybody will make a game 1600X720 or something.

It could be something like 1024X720 in theory, I'm just assuming 1280X720 is the lowest they would go on next gen hardware.

As I pointed out, my "results" are just in the range of 720P, "in the range" means it could even be 640, or 680, or 780, vertical. I'm just assuming anything close to 720=720.

Not only am I not very good, but to get closer to the true res you need more steps. And the pic quality was so blurry I couldn't really count longer edges, nor did I try very hard.

Some aliasing issues are pretty apparent for the most part. I expect the game to be sub 900p-ish. Something on the lines of 1366x768.

Well first off it certainly helps to have a better quality image. I used this one:

You did everything correct though.

Well of course it's 720p. It's an alpha and the cloud is not activated yet. It will surely bring a scoop of the rest of the pixels with it.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Yeah there have been rumours for a while that it was 720p... could change before release, but if the demo/alpha is running at that, then it might be unlikely that it would change at this point.
