Forums - Gaming - Chrono Trigger VS FFXIII battle system, and thoughts.

Well, Anima was an extremely basic battle.

Chrono Trigger was the best for its time, but nothing tops FFXIII's battle system for me.

FFXIII has in my opinion the worst combat system of any Final Fantasy game(even worse than XII which i hated).

Chrono Trigger had the in my opinion best implementation of the ATB system which made the combat feel fast paced and fun, while the FFXIII "use" of ATB was just a travesty.

The worst part about FFXIII is that you only control 1 character at a time, and if that character dies it is game over,
i could have better accepted FFXIII's combat system if it had let you take control of one of the 2 other characters still alive.

I love FF XIII battle system. It's fast. The flow is intense. (Currently playing the game).

It's a shame they sacrificed so much in other areas, though. Probably one of the worst Final Fantasy (not as bad as X-2 though), but overall a very solid, enjoyable JRPG.

FF13 has stoped me purchasing anymore FF games.

That should give you an idea on what i think about it.

And I would like to hear your reasons why.

I brought the game on launch. I never finished it. It is the only FF game i have played and not completed. Story was crap. Game far to linear. The characters were annoying. It was just so boring. That game did not deserve the sales it got. It shows with the sequels that this pile of cow dung left a bad taste in peoples mouths

You've got to be kidding that is so hilarious! But I do want to know what Characters you've liked in other games like this that are so much better so I can see where you are coming from since you have such good taste.

im not even talking to you know more because you are talking down to me.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

I loved FFXIII but not so much for its battle system. I prefer turn-based combat so Chrono Trigger for me.

XIII has the edge over the battle system. Chrono Trigger has a great system but it felt a bit slow, which could get annoying when facing really basic enemies. Though, I wont hold too much against CT's battle system since I've only played it on my PSP, no idea if the SNES/DS versions were any faster or slower

This is what I mean.

You didn't like the characters, the story, the artwork, the game design, the voice acting, the bosses, the equipment/weapons, the cutscenes?

You didn't like any of those items about the game I mention? Because when you do this you lead people to believe that everything else in the game is crap/garbage. And again I diagree tremendously with you if you didn't think the voice acting was very well done, or the soundtrack didn't have some really good tracks, or that the artwork and graphical design was fantastic, eeeek the cutscenes were beautiful.  So really, are you serious?  I think both of these games have so much to offer and I don't understand peoples comments like yours. I don't get how they rate these games when they cannot elaborate why.

That's the thing about FF XIII. Most of the things it did, it did so very well (except for the story telling. The story was just very badly told, however good it was.).

It's the things that it did not do that makes it a disappointing Final Fantasy game.

Off-topic, I love Sazh to death. My man! Snow is pretty cool too. I actually enjoy his blind optimism and cookie cutter hero personality.

Well said.

Luckily I enjoy change, and didn't care about what was missing.

I don't think it was that bad. Well I was craving for a new FF game and I think it was just ok. I always do re-run of any FF games but for this one I didn't do it. There was no replay value in this one.

And then I went crazy buying FF-XIII 2. Now that is a "big pile of cow". I am not even thinking on getting FF-XIII 3 and I am very concern of FF XV.

Tales of Xillia has been the most enjoying JRPG I have played this gen. And I am not a Tales of Series fan.
