I don't think another traditional Nintendo console is happening period. To me it sounds like they are burned out from the whole idea. 2014/15 will be seen in hindsight as the beginning of a new Nintendo era in a lot of ways and the end of the Wii/DS era that begun in 2004. 

A Nintendo portable tablet is coming, that's what they're already likely internally shifting their focus towards. It will be out in 2015, probably early 2015 at that. Watch and see. 

The Wii U will get whatever is already in development for it, so for however long that takes to finish. Don't worry, I guess in that context the Zelda team will take forever to make the next Zelda game so technically you can say Nintendo supported the Wii U for "X" number of years.

Ummm isnt this what nintendo is doing already most of the time? The majority of nintendo games are lower cost budget titles though they do of course sell great. The exceptions (such as Bayo 2 etc) are the efforts by nintendo to reach out to the greater gaming audience (other than their fans) who generally dont like their current IPs. Personally, their current strategy of getting hardcore games this time around has clearly not worked for them. But really do they have a choice if they want to get a bigger share of the gaming audience?

Also, regarding releasing a console in 1 or 2 years time, console development takes a heck of a long time. What with determining the hardware and characteristics, eliminating bugs and readying it for development. I think nintendo rushed out the Wii U and as a consequence are nowhere near getting a console ready for launch in a year or two more. And lets face it any console releasing that soon will need to be equivalent to the X1/ps4 in power or even more powerful (regardless of any other gimmick they might include). I dont see nintendo managing to do this so soon.

Well , I hope they at least make a profit from wii U so...I guess they can drop at end 2016/ early 2017, they have at least reach the GC numbers or do better .
