Forums - Gaming - Your main console just pulled a Dreamcast, now what?

If by pulling a Dreamcast you mean having an forward thinking console, with an awesome games line-up released in a short 18 month life cycle, I'd be rather happy.

That said, I'd switch to the alternative. Most games these days are multi-platform.

That's what I actually did when the Dreamcast ceased production, I bought a PS2.

I have all three now. My favorite is Xbox, so if that goes, I'd get/use my PS4.

I suppose it depends upon which system went out. I realize this is more of a hypothetical "you mainly play on one platform" type of topic.

My main platform is still the PS3 although admittedly, it's primary use hasn't been games in awhile. I still have a stack of unplayed games to go through or at least scratch the surface of.

If support for the PS3 dropped, I'd roll straight into just playing games on the PS4, which isn't as good when it comes to media playback. No remote yet and no external HDD support or support for video files; just BDs and DVDs for now. Obviously, I should be watching media on Netflix, Hulu Plus and the dozen other media services, but old habits favor localized content for now.

If support for the PS Vita went out, that would probably be my last dedicated gaming device. Still have the 3DS, but I haven't bought anything for it in almost two years (that can't be right). The thing with the PSV is, even if they stopped publishing games for it, it could still be used for remote play, PSP games, etc. The only thing missing would be new Vita releases.

The gen in wich my main console (Dreamcast) pulled out i ended up buying all systems on that gen.

Current gen i bought 2 of them. I dont do motion controls so i left the Wii out. Next gen i am getting two again. Missing on the X1.

So... i always got a backup. No worries. I also got a decent PC if i wanted to game on that exclusively. But, i only like RTS and MMORPG's on the PC.

It'd be retro and PC gaming for this Nintendo fan, unless some PlayStation system finally offered enough great JRPG's to be worth my time and money.

Funny you should say that, because the Playstation is the best system to own if you're interested in JRPGs.  Unless you're only talking about new RPGs and generalizing Playstation to mean PS4 and Vita only.  You did say retro, but you could just mean sticking to retro Nintendo games.

PlayStation is the best console for JRPG's, but not the best system. In the 7th gen, that would be the DS. And the 3DS seems like it's continuing that trend, especially considering how great a year 2013 was for the genre.

We could get into a little debate about whether the DS or PS3 has had a better JRPG lineup, but considering how I picked up the DS in 2008, when the system already had a decent JRPG library*, and the PS3 JRPG library didn't pick up for another year or so, I think I made a sound choice.

As it is, I'm considering getting a PS3 eventually to play games like Persona 5, the Souls games, Kingdom Hearts HD, Ni no Kuni, etc.

*By the end of 2008, the DS had The World Ends With You, Pokemon Gen 4, Mario & Luigi, Atlus titles, and the various remakes and ports you often find on handhelds.

I'm not talking about the PS3 though.  PS3 has a horrible JRPG line up(it's got some good games but you know what I mean.)  I'm talking about the Playstation, PSX, PSOne.

Dont be a lemming and commit to a single system. Expand the gaming portfolio.

I've always gamed a lot on PC so that would be my main platform. As for consoles I'd get an Atari 2600.
