4k is the future for sure, however I cant see myself getting one anytime soon due to the amount of power that is required to play PC games on them and to get a good framerate at the same time. Also the amount of 4k content is very, very, very limited. I will ride 1080p until 4k is forced upon us, which probably going to be next gen consoles (Ps5 and the next Xbox) Inb4 the next Nintendo console will still be 1080p...

Pshh, 4k... who wants to bother with that half-arsed resolution.
What about 8k, isn't anyone excited about that? :o

I know I am!

Hell yeah!

then again... 16k might be even sweeter! I think I'll wait for that before I buy my next TV. 16k glasses-less 3D @ 48 fps ought to be standard. On my phone.

Its all about price points. Though, I'm not sure if people with FullHD TVs are willing to upgrade just yet. On the PC end it makes perfect sense for content creators. However, it may be too expensive from a gaming standpoint. The Kind of GPU grunt needed for 4K is just way too costly for the average PC gamer right now.

And before you even get there, the development cost of large budget games that truly take advantage of that sort of resolution is just completely prohibitive.

16K is such a relict, 64K is the real future!

I definetly need 4k Phones. 4k TVs and Monitors are nice to have but not a necessity for me right now. I want to see a 5-6 inch display with 4k sooner rather than later.

It's the tech industry's job to make you want the newer bigger thing. I don't see myself upgrading from 1080p for a looooong time. I don't see the masses going gaga over it, either.

4K just seems pointless for anything other than big-screen TVs. I see them maybe becoming the standard for anything 50" and above once the prices get low enough to be affordable to the mass market, but for small screens the difference would be negligible from normal viewing distances. Diminishing returns and all that jazz.

4k for VR is still far from ideal so its actually quite useful if we get very small screens with extremly high resolutions. The FOV in VR could be increased dramatically without seeing the black spaces between the pixels. For example a 4k on a 5.6 inch screen would make a FOV of 100+ degrees decent looking.

You are comparing apples with oranges. It is obviously beneficial for screens that are centimeters away from the viewer; but TVs are normally meters away, only 55+ would start to see benefits.

When 4K content is readily available, not just for a few select products, then I'll be an adopter. Until then, I don't see the point, even for PC gaming. 1080p @ 60 fps is more than enough for me right now.
