Seriously, I got TLoU for free with my PS3 on Black Friday and I just couldn't get into it. I think I'll start the whole game over. I got to one of those encounters where you had to sneak up on those zombie people, got passed it and searched for supplies and then I quit playing. Wasn't drawn in at all. I avoided all spoilers and I'm sure I'm still early in the game (found out about Ellie's little secret and played about an hour after that). I'm holding off judgement until I beat it so I assume something huge is going to happen sooner or later.

the opening starts huge, then the game can get rather slow, but it does pick up again. It's worth dealing with the slow parts for what comes later but if you just want to do one play through it shouldn't be too much of a chore. I need to replay it all for some trophies and I'm not looking forward to the first quarter and a bit, but I've already played it twice.

Yeah, the opening had me screaming "Game of the year!" almost immediately.  I didn't expect the change of pace.  I'd have liked more playing during the actual "zombie apocalypse" instead of jumping 20 or so years later.  Things should pick up, though.  I've avoided spoilers and reviews for this long.  Now that I've finally finished beyond, I'll go balls deep into The Last of Us with minimal distractions.  It got all of those high scores for a reason.

I could make a snappy little joke about this but I will refrain and congrats to Naughty Dog. Amazing developer.

Lots of great games this year and TLOU was definitely among the top.

No nomination for beyond makes me sad though :(

Now Beyond: Two Souls....that was my PS3 GotY!  There were times when it dragged but it was so beautiful and ambitious and dat ending!!  I know it's a niche game but if The Walking Dead could get so much recognition last year, surely somebody loves Beyond as much as we do.  Sucked me in from the opening scene and never let go.

I really liked beyond, 2 of my friends that also played it loved it. It became one of their favorite games ever. You guys aren't alone.

Hmm. I still don't understand why so many people love it so much...

Regardless, congrats to Naughty Dog.

I played it with my  daughter (I'm a terrible father).  She was Jodie and I was Aiden.  She couldn't control me!  It added to the realism.  It was pretty common to hear me say "Nya......RELEASE ME!!" and she'd hit the triangle button and I'd start fucking up everything.  Good times, bro.  Good times.

Stop posting and go play TLOU. I'm doing you a favour here!

The simple concept that not everyone thinks like you is hard to grasp? Amazing story, characters and game for most people, thus critical acclaim and the awards it got. If you didn't think so...OK.

Not surprised at all it had to be either GTA V or The Last of Us...both of them are the finest video games in history. Anything other than that though would have been a disgrace as good as games like Bioshock Infinite were and normally a game like that would have won game of the year..TLOU and GTA V really made 2013 the best year in gaming for me.
