Forums - Sales - MS lied about >3million, is actually at 2.8 or 2.9m (famousmortimer rumor)

To know that makes me feel better

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Stop responding to propaganda with more propaganda. The number of terrorities isnt relevant, it is the demand within said territories.

What I meant is that MS announced that number around 16 hours after launch, and there were still plenty of Ones in stock in places. (yet they claimed sold out almost everywhere)

You don't know that and frankly, you resorting to what-ifs and maybes over something like this surprises me.

"and there were still plenty of Ones in stock in places"

They are locked out with this line of argument since Black Friday.

Since Black Friday in the US the XOne outsold the PS4 all the weeks but the week before Christmass, when PS4 received a large shippment to Amazon and Walmart.

Xbox One is available everywhere and is still on top 10 bestsellers at Amazon, the only place online the PS4 has been available in the last week.

That is US only. Check out the charts for global sales. PS4 is consistently outselling the Xbox One week to week since the week after the Xbox One launched.

Of course its is USA only. 99% of claims that "tons of XOne on shelfs", and how bad this is are from NA.

Well, I've seen a few talking about overseas, like the UK. Besides, just because they are selling about the same number in the US as the PS4 doesn't mean they don't have a high on the shelf stock. They are likely sending more units to the US than Sony is anyway given the size of the overseas market.

I still don't understand why this is a big deal. How in the world could Microsoft figure out an exact number of XBOs sold to consumers. Did they call up every retailer in the world and ask for an exact figure? They probably created an estimate based on shipments and sell through numbers from certain retailers. Maybe the XBO sold 2.9, maybe they sold 3.1. Hell, maybe the PS4 sold 4.1, or maybe it sold 4.3. There's got to be a margin of error here. People are freaking out for no reason.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

The only other places Xone likelly to be outselling the PS4 is Australia (no supply), Brazil (price and no supply) and Mexico (don´t no why).

All that discussion because a guy said it was 2.8-2.9M instead of 3.0-3.1M... In the worst case it would be less than 300K, or around a week of XOne sales, no big deal. MS numbers are more close to VGC ones (3M for the year, so we got 3 more days of sales than current VGC data) and PS4 data was pretty accurate as One's data regarding other sales milestones were accurate too.

Well, for me, it isn't so much the difference as much as it seems that Microsoft feels the need to fudge the numbers a bit. Kind of like the fudging about "November's fastest selling console" stuff. I understand they are pushing their product, but it just really pisses me off when I see people spinning like that.

They can spin as much as they want, there is no way they will make that numbers look better than PS4 current ones. It was just like Activision trying to spin Ghosts numbers to make it look like they were closer to GTA when actually they got demolished in the comparison (and come one, it was a much bigger difference than PS4 vs. One and they still tried that!)

So, M$ has to be lying and Sony is only stating the facts? Why bother with this other than to troll the web with BS. M$ wouldn't bother to shoot out a number that they would have to admit was false later. It's not worth the never ending debate that is created on the web when companies get caught lying. Better to believe them both than to pick one company and say they are lying...

It is near the end of the end....
