This is getting tiring. So the controller, "philosophy" and price means the Wii U is not the Wiis follow up? Does the Kintect, "philosophy" and price mean the X1 is not the 360s follow up?
Nintendo made a bet and kinda lost, leave it at that. If Nintendo strikes back with some cheap mass market omg wow VR console next gen do you think it will sell anywhere near the Wii?
Does anyone expect any console to reach similar numbers to the PS2 in the near or distant future? The market has changed. The market is fragmented. Nintendo didn't get its message across. Fullstop.

Yes. That's what I'm saying.
Of course the WiiU is the Wii follow up, and X1 is 360 follow up, but the strategy behind them is different, that's what we are talking about.
The X1 example is even more blatant:
The 360 gained a lot of marketshares early this gen because of cost leadership strategy and the "pay for what you play" policy (we offer a cheap package but you can upgrade buying things separately), on the other hand Sony opted for the premium price model offering a complete package with a large hard-drive and blu-ray movies.
This time with X1, Microsoft is trying to differetiate themselves offering a premium service with XB Live and Kinect, while Sony is going for a cheaper and more gaming-focused console. That's the reason why Ps4 is kicking X1's ass.

Not really. Sony totally botched the PS3 in its early years and the X1 is tracking largely the same as its predecessor at the same point in time. I dont expect it to do as well as the 360 but it shouldnt do significantly worse in the long term either. The PS3 still managed to beat the 360 even with its year long head start. PS is just a stronger brand though Microsoft made some impressive inroads last gen. This time Sony has done everything right from day 1, making things a little bit more difficult for MS.
The Wii U however is just lagging way too far behind its prededecessor and even its predecessors predecessor. I dont think ANYONE expected a performance like this

I dont think I missed it????
I just think its a silly thing to have two separate posts that are effectively the same discussion.
This surely could be covered in the same thread.
Nintendo came up with the WiiU beacuse they couldn't come up with a better idea.
are you referring to my thread?

I see your point, but it's a lot easier to spread your knowledge by making a thread rather than writing in a thread. In most cases replying in the thread is the best, both for the poster and the reciever, but at certain times making a seperate thread is ok. This is one of them.
I think that with the wii U they tried to reach out for the "hardcore" but forgot to make games for the "hardcore" audience and also that "hardcore" audience likes to bash Nintendo (see GC sell numbers and GC was the last "hardcore" game console they did)
