I never hide anything, but I generally don't bring up Mario or JRPG's to my dude/bro friends who are more into COD, NHL and GTA. Not so much because I'm embarrassed, but because they just don't understand. I do have a little Mario on my entertainment stand, however.

Don't worry, once you hit university it's suddenly cool to play Nintendo games again. At least just about anyone I know on my university will gleefully tell you about the Nintendo games they've already played and still do. I also don't study anything IT related either.

there's nothing wrong with playing pokemon, loads of people play it.

if your 16-18 in school theres a good chance you hide the fact you play Pokemon. While in school I actually knew a fair few popular kids (coz I was the unpopular kid that somehow hung out with them) that secretly played Pokemon but they were all embaressed by it.

18 here. Half the boys in my form have played Pokemon X/Y during free periods.

Same here, but not popular kids. I would say about 30% of 17-18yo at my school played it but only half them would openly admit it. Thats still a lot of people openly playing it.

Catherine.

And i play that game frequently.

Edit: Also, you are never to old to play Pokemon. My grandpa still plays it, lol.

Pokémon or Animal Crossing

I have this awesome .png that pretty much sums this up in three panels, but it's on my home PC, and I'm at work. Describes both my Pokemon and Nintendo fandom perfectly.

1) Middle school: A bunch of kids are standing around enjoying Pokemon to their hearts content. "Pokemon!"

2) High school: One of those kids is trying to mind his business and enjoy his game, but some douchebag puts him on the spot for it. "You still play Pokemon?"

3) College: The Pokefan finds others and can relive the good old days. "Pokemon? POKEMON!"

lol... I'm well past University and as I said, I'm not embarassed.  Just still, most of my old athlete friends play games, but not much beyond COD, GTA and NHL.  So I don't bring Mario up, or games like Mass Effect, Zelda, FF or Xenoblade or the like.  They just don't get it.  Some do, especially the ones who have kids.  But most of the guys who I have a beer with on weekends stick to a limited selection.

Onechanbara (Wii AND 360), Rumble Roses (PS2 and 360), Deaad or Alive Xtreme 2, LBP2--virtually any game with slutty game women.

typical athletic kids that are looked at as the popular kids whilst they play pokemon they will not openly admit it. at least not the ones I know

Most games I do not bring up as I know my tastes are often niche.  Have couple friends who like RPGs so we discuss those.

I would buy this man a drink and shake his hand.
