Forums - Nintendo - Sad Day coming soon- February 28th, 2014 actual death of the Beloved Nintendo DS?

The DS fat was my first handheld, and I loved the original design tbh.  I sold it to my local game store in the original box with the manuals etc, with screen protectors on it for 40 bucks.  Why did I do that?  Oh well, the screens sucked anyways unless it was pitch black, and I didn't have any advance games.  =p

Traded it in day 1 on my cosmo black 3DS.

Well I loved it at first, then I hated it and sold it, then I bought another one and liked it.

Just like the PSP though, I didn't get to play many games on it at all. I've bought more games for my 3DS in the past week than I ever did for my DS. Pokemon Heart Gold / Soul Silver was incredible though.

I bought a DSLite in 2007 but I couldn't afford any games so I just played my GBA games. Then after I had an accident and underwent surgery in my mouth, my dad bought me NSMB and Sims2(GBA)(who cares about that one :P), and i had an amazing exprience with it. Later in 2009, I bought my DSi, which is very special to me because it's actually the first one in all of Israel. Playing Mario VS Luigi with my brother was so awesome, that we still play it even today. My DSLite, along with Pokemon Soulsilver, my bro's GBA, His copy of Pokemon Leafgreen, are nowhere to be found now, I put them in my bag in may 2012 and I have no idea where those things are ): thankfully my DS and Other games are still safe and sound, and I treasure them even though I upgraded to the 3DS XL in November.

Got a DS Phat with Super Mario 64 DS the first Christmas it was available. The DS and I never got along very well, as starting out with a N64 port made me think it would be the 2nd coming of the N64...which of course it never was. So to me, the DS was one disappointment after another and so I never bothered upgrading to a different iteration and only wound up with about a dozen games after 8 years. I probably spent more time playing GBA games on my DS than I ever spent playing actual DS games.

Thank God for 3DS, and 3DS XL specifically. THAT thing has already become my favorite system (console OR handheld) ever! It IS the 2nd coming of the N64...except with Gamecube quality graphics. Yes, please! 22 games and counting! :D

Back to the OP: Good-bye, DS. I won't really miss you, but I know there are many that will remember you fondly.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

I do remember how much fun DSLite and my M3DS Simply had. Very, very good times.

About time, too, after a decade. It's had an unprecedentedly great run.

10-year plan ftw!

Don't mean to rain on anyone's nostalgia moments, but why are we thinking DS will be discontinued February 28? Because Gamefaqs mentions only one game? They also mention only one game for Wii and they don't mention a whole lot for WiiU and Vita either, guess those will be discontinued before summer as well then. DS will remain for a while longer.

Anyway, I got a DSlite I think summer 2006, when we were on holiday in France. Got it along with Mario Kart DS, to upgrade the GBA I took with me. It took awhile for the system to stick though, coming off the disappointing 6th Gen I was a little weary of both DS and Wii. Sure, I got the DS Zelda games when they were released and a couple of others too, but it wasn't until the systems latter years I actually got around to buying more games, including older ones. For example I only got Super Mario 64 DS (which unbelievably so was still full price) or Mario Party in 2011 after I already had the 3DS!

I remember the XY game you're talking about. It was called Feel the Magic: XX/XY and it was an assortment of minigames each representing a crazy stunt you pulled to impress a girl.

Got my DS when it first came out, still have it today. All I had was Super Mario 64 DS, Pokemon Dash, Yoshi Touch & Go, and Metroid Prime: First Hunt. Man, so many memories on that thing. Had the most disappointing Zelda games in the entire franchise though.

Played Pokemon Diamond of my cousin's DS Lite back in summer 2007, ended up getting one myself shortly after.
Also owner of a DSi, which was quite amazing itself.

The PS2 and DS will forever rule as the systems with the largest librarys of great games.
