Why stop there? Highest selling game is a PS3 game: GTAV. (Yes, Kinect Adventures doesn't count). |
And then the next 4 best selling games are all on Xbox.

But I think to get to 1 million it's going to need digital + shipped numbers, yeah. I think so too, but if you had to bet either way - over or under 1 mil for shipped+digital - which would you choose? This part is vitally important |
I really don't know. Xillia & Ni No Kuni give me hope that it will breeze past it... but they have 2 years and a year and a half respectively on P5, which is working massively in their favour
But if Persona really is as big as everyone keeps telling me it is, then it'll manage it no problem.
Idk!
| Lawlight said: There are no good worldwide sales numbers because MS never released that information so there's no way to know. But if vgchartz is to believed, the PS3 is about to pass the DS's software sales numbers. |
While VGC numbers are far from factual, theyre the best we have on a worldwide basis for totals. The EU numbers are missing a lot of data though. This is where a lot of discrepancies pop up for all platforms and is why the DS software looks so far off by like ~100 Million or something. You have to remember with the DS that it released in late 04/ early 05. VGChartz wasnt even here then and thus doesnt have any meaningful data outside of JP.
You have to look at a number of other factors and the markets anyway.
The West generally buys more videogames than anywhere else. The 360 has the lead in the West by around 11 Million consoles, with the PS3 taking it Worldwide because of Japan and the other smaller countries, which dont buy a whole lot of games due to the gigantic 2nd hand markets (and smaller userbases).
We know for a fact that America buys more videogames than anywhere else, and the 360 has a lead of almost 20 Million consoles there.
An example for the significance of the American market - 63 Million units of software have been sold for the 360 in the USA in 2013 alone. 67 Million units of software have been sold for the PS3 in Japan... Since launch.
When the consoles are neck and neck on hardware, expect the console that has advantages in the more significant markets to take the software lead.
In short - Its really not hard to believe that the 360 has sold more software than the PS3. Its been on the market longer and its sold more in the markets that sell more software.

Are we ignoring wii on best sellers? This is a 7th gen console million seller thread.

No, we don't know for a fact how many units are sold in the US compared to Asia + Europe + Japan + Rest of the World.
You yourself say that there are a lot of discrepancies with the DS numbers being off by ~100M and yet you use it to claim that more software were sold in the 360?
360 is still in the lead of total software sales even after 9 years. 360 is going strong.

It's the bar for more success. Games over 3 million PS3 - 39 Xbox - 51 Xbox stomps.
Games over 4 million PS3 - 33 Xbox - 36 Xbox wins
Games over 5 million PS3 - 22 Xbox - 25 Xbox wins
Games over 6 million PS3 - 14 Xbox - 18 Xbox wins
And so and so on. |
Lol you owned him.
360 clearly has more overall software sales.
Even after 9 years on the market.

? I thought we were trying to exclude as many of the lesser selling games as possible to make our console look better? Why else would you not include Wii, lol? |
I was perfectly happy with 2 million but you seem insecure and are trying to twist things around.
No matter how you look at it, Xbox royally stomps.

Yeah, 8+ years vs. ~7 years. What does "even after 9 years" mean? PS3 software sold a lot more in 2013 and it will in 2014 too. Only a matter of time until it catches up. |
Pezus needs to understand fanboysh (language they speak), the more you stay in the market the less you sell. Ms started with 1Billion Sw, and after almost 9 years still have more than 850m on their members.. While sony started with 1,5B and after only 7 years dropped to 720M, gotcha?
