Whilst I do have to give you props for actually putting some effort into this thread, the fact that it's a copycat thread means it's going to be locked.

The DS's popularity grew over time, followed by a few years of consistently high sales, then proceeded by a final few years where it's sales dropped off. This is the same thing that happened the PSP, PS3 and 360 (tends to look something like a curve). The Wii on the other hand almost instantly peaked (delayed only by supply issues) then spent the next 3/4 of it's life cycle progressively selling worse and worse. In the case of a full blown fad, the sales would look like this:

The Wii looked like this:

What that shows is the Wii was not entirely a fad, and earn much of it's own success, but that a large portion of it's early sales were due to one.

Wii was released in 2006. Its peak year was 2008, not 2006 or 2007. 2009 was also a good year and "selling worse" is not the word I'll use.

it was released at the end of 2006, and spent most of 2006 and 7 with sonstant supply issues, hense i said it's peak was delayed. It went from 24 million to 21 million. What else would you call it other than "worse" lol :p it then continued that rate of decretion year after year, which as we can see today, added up.

Take away it's peak (which would be even sharper were it not for the supply issue) and what do you know, it now looks the same as all the others:

Grey out the peak (that would be even sooner/sharper were it not for the supply issues) and what do you know, suddenly we have the normal curve displayed by nearly every other successful console. That shows the peak was abnormal, and must have been caused by abnormal circumstances. Seeing as it's followed by a consistent drop, we know that peak the demand was short lived and never returned, thus a fad.

As I've said a million times, the Wii wasn't entirely a fad. Even without those early sales numbers it would still have been a success, but anyone who can't see the abnormality of those early sales is actively trying not to.
