Forums - General - convince me that marijuana should be legal.

I know there's a marijuana thread,but I wanted to debate this specific topic. If the mods close this thread,then I'll understand. So,why should marijuana be legal. There's no real benifit 2 it at all. All it does is make you a lazy unproductive member of society. What good does that do to be high all the time and do nothing in life,but live for that high. Anybody that wants to use it for medical purposes is just using that as an excuse to get high. according to my reading,the drug produces anxiety,fear,distrust and panic. It also affects your posture,coordination and reaction time. It can also cause dellusions and hallucinations. it can also increase heart rate and cause sleep impairment. How does all that give you these magical medical benefits. I just don't understand what's so great about this so-called magical drug. For the record,I don't understand the point of booze and tobacco,but those things are legal. Why make just another bad thing for you,legal. It benifits no one. If I had my way,booze and tobacco would be outlawed. There's no benefit in any of these things.

1) Government prohibitions don't work. They never, ever have. It just encourages black markets, which lead to crime.

2) Alcohol kills people, not marijuana. So why is alcohol legal?

3) If it's the government's role to stop us from doing stupid things, why are McDonald's and Taco Bell allowed to sell us fatty foods that cause us to be an obese society?  Obesity is much more harmful than marijuana.

4) If we need more tax revenue (which we do), why not legalize marijuana, and tax and regulate it just like cigarettes and alcohol?

It will stop the criminals and gangs from selling them, so the crime rate will go down. Also, the marijuana will be more safe, as street marijuana probably has a lot of nasty chemicals that freshly grown marijuana sold by the government or legit companies wouldn't.

it's your own decision to take drugs or not. Marijuhana isn't even as unhealthy as cigaretts and alcohol...

(2) unlegallise morfine while your at it

(3) mental state not the drugs itself

(4) depends on the dose

I think the idea that the government exists to protect us from our own stupidity is much more harmful to society than any drug or side affect to a drug.
