Valve founder Gabe Newell has shrugged off Microsoft’s announcement that 3 million Xbox One consoles were sold last year, using the opportunity to remind everyone just how many of us have Steam accounts.

It follows Microsofts announcement that it shifted some 3 million Xbox One consoles in 2013.

CVG reports that during a Q&A session at CES 2014, an audience member asked Newell what he thought of the milestone, and if the company’s Steam Machines line-up could reach the same figures.

He replied, “Well, it’d take a while for them to catch up. I mean, we’re at 65 million,” touting the amount of users currently signed up to Steam.

Yeah... I think he will wish the sold that many when the steam box comes out in that amount of time. I really dont think its going to go that well. Most already have a computer with those games, and a steambox is mainly linux which doesnt run all those games in steam.

Yeah I know they are working on it, we will see in time I guess.

ROFL. I hope Steam box bankrupts them. Their titles are overated and they are an extremely slow developer.

65 mill Steam accounts?

How about 80 mill 360's you absolute douche. And the fact that PC Steam runs pretty well on Windows.

Mmm weird comparison. Even if he compared that to Live users it wouldn't be fair since Live isn't free. He probably said it jokingly.

Well, that was a pointless comparison.

Gabe just let it slipped, he is more inteligent than that. One could counter argue that Microsoft is not worried with Steam Machines alas they have a 2 billion advantage.

Thats right, I forgot about that. Oh well, a $10 HDMI cable connects my computer to my TV, just need a steam controller which I am highly skeptical of since I hate touch screen controls enough already.
