Forums - Gaming - All Vita games should be cross buy.

I remember Blu ray sales were struggling quite a bit, so they decided that if you buy the Blu Ray version it will come with the DVD (and digital version) and that made them take off, at least here it did.

They should do a similar thing with Vita games. If you buy a game for the PS3 and it has a Vita version then it should come with a code to be able to download the game.

If I have the option of buying a game for the PS3 so I can play it on my big TV or playing it on a small Vita screen that will eventually run out of battery I will pick the PS3 version every time.

They actually did do this with PS All Stars Battle Royale and Sly 4 and it should be done with them all.

Oh and it also needs a exclusive GTA game, a new Uncharted, God of War, Infamous, MGS, Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts for it aswell.

I'm with you, I guess. At least until the Vita gets its legs. The problem is, the Vita is very different than the PS3. I would hate to be a company like Tecmo, for instance, and work hard getting a game like Dead or Alive to run on both the Vita and the PS3 only to find that my hard work is being given away for free.

In fact, I hear that some companies that did allow cross buy are going back on that. They say Limbo is no longer a cross buy title but somehow, I still got the PS3 version for free after I bought the Vita version.

all i see on d21's post is the legs :P oh and boobs :P

bad idea because that basically means either the game has to be identical to PS3 version, or if they do spend time and money making it different they wont earn a penny from it which wont happen.

They need to make the vita games different to ps3 and make them worth paying for, for example make a killzone real time strategy game or an uncharted telltale game, or a god of war action rpg like diablo.

Agreed. PSP sold well though it was plagued by piracy. Maybe buying a title with an extra $10 fee would be better though. PSP showed that if devs aren't getting any money, no games. Especially true for the later years.

Games like Sly 4, PS All Stars, DBZ Battle of Z, Final Fantasy X HD, Jumpo Stars Victory Vs and others I assume would be damn near identical to begin with. By having both versions it will only get more people to buy the game that they may have otherwise not have because it has more value.

As I said they put the DVD in with the Blu Ray and that didn't lose the studios money from DVD sales it just gained them money from the Blu rays sales. They also have it on the PS store that if you buy PS3 DLC you get the Vita DLC free.

Obviously different games shouldn't be included but something like Final Fantasy X/X2 HD should come with a Vita version when you buy the PS3 version.

You could play the game at home then continue the game over at a friends house or on holiday or on the bus.

I can't think of a Sony published multiplat that wasn't a part of cross-buy.

Yeah but once a movie is shot, it's shot.  You can put it on VHS, digital, or whatever rather inexpensively.  DVDs have always been cheap to produce.  Video games aren't quite the same.  A lot has to go into developing two versions and optimizing them for each format.

Even old games like Metal Gear Solid HD (which actually does let you convert saves from one version to the other) took a lot of work to port to the Vita and that's old PS2 games.  I'm no dev or programmer but I'm pretty sure you can't just hit a magic button and suddenly have your game run on the Vita.  It's gotta take effort and money to get those games operational.  The developers that take that risk have to be hoping for some sort of return on their investment either by increased sales or some Vita sales.  With the Vita userbase being what it is, that's just a risk I wouldn't be willing to take.  Maybe if Sony offered some sort of incentive but Sony isn't exactly rolling in dough right now.

It would be good for gamers, especially gamers that own both systems but I just don't see how it could be good for developers whose sole purpose is to make money.
