As I said they put the DVD in with the Blu Ray and that didn't lose the studios money from DVD sales it just gained them money from the Blu rays sales. They also have it on the PS store that if you buy PS3 DLC you get the Vita DLC free. Obviously different games shouldn't be included but something like Final Fantasy X/X2 HD should come with a Vita version when you buy the PS3 version. You could play the game at home then continue the game over at a friends house or on holiday or on the bus. |
Yeah but once a movie is shot, it's shot. You can put it on VHS, digital, or whatever rather inexpensively. DVDs have always been cheap to produce. Video games aren't quite the same. A lot has to go into developing two versions and optimizing them for each format.
Even old games like Metal Gear Solid HD (which actually does let you convert saves from one version to the other) took a lot of work to port to the Vita and that's old PS2 games. I'm no dev or programmer but I'm pretty sure you can't just hit a magic button and suddenly have your game run on the Vita. It's gotta take effort and money to get those games operational. The developers that take that risk have to be hoping for some sort of return on their investment either by increased sales or some Vita sales. With the Vita userbase being what it is, that's just a risk I wouldn't be willing to take. Maybe if Sony offered some sort of incentive but Sony isn't exactly rolling in dough right now.
It would be good for gamers, especially gamers that own both systems but I just don't see how it could be good for developers whose sole purpose is to make money.
