People think his primary job is making these far-reaching predictions in the media but that's only a minor aspect. His real job is advising clients where they should or shouldn't put their money, which is far more nuanced than fanboys talking about who is "winning" the console wars.

As an internet media celebrity? He's employed because he's entertaining and he's good in front of a camera. Pach Attack is a lot of fun. He also has certain groups of fanboys wrapped around his finger, which generates a lot of exposure and revenue. I don't always agree with him but I love the way he trolls.

Man, imagine if everyone got paid well to troll.  Some of the posters on this website would be rich :)

Actually Pachter was one of the few people that at the beginning predicted Wii would be a firehit (on Bonus round in 2006).

Anyway he gets paid for the same reason all financial analysts get paid...to analyse & it's what he does.

Patcher gets paid because,

1. Unlike most of the people he is smart to present himself infornt of higher ups.

2. He uses good (at least persuadeable) explanation (using terms from economics and finance) of consoles information to his higher ups.

3. He is calm and knows how to tackle people.
